Default 1991 944 turbo

Was on the german web car site mobile.de, and came across a 1991 944 turbo coupe and cabro roadster, Great looking coupe with the 968 rear wing on her. Wish they would have imported some of them over here! Total of 938 1991 turbos produced of which 253 were convertibles. Love the look as I have a 1991 944S2 with the same rear wing. Guess I will have to go over to germany to buy one and drive it to Austria , and keep it at my cousins home. That wouldnt be a bad deal would it now, AUTO BAHN RUNS! Plenty of 1991 944S2 OVER THERE , but all real high mileage cars, they drive the hell out of them. As do I. no garage queens in my stable.

"Total of 938 1991 turbos produced of which 253 were convertibles"

I didn't think 944 turbos come in convertible form.

If Wikipedia is to be believed:

944 Turbo Cabriolet
In February 1991 Porsche released the 944 Turbo Cabriolet, which combined the Turbo S's 250 hp (186 kW) engine with the cabriolet body built by ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg Germany . Porsche initially announced that 600 would be made; ultimately 625 were built, 100 of which were right-hand drive for the United Kingdom, Japanese, Australian and South African market. None were imported to the US.

Yup, there were definitely some turbo cabriolet since I saw a couple of them in Portugal and one in France.

Yes. The 944 Turbo Cabriolet was produced, but not imported to the U.S.

I think someone on here has one.

IIRC, all the cabs had Turbo S drivetrain. Special since apparently unlike the U.S., not all 1989+ RoW 944 Turbos came in S-specification. Not sure about this.

At least one Turbo cab has been dismantled.

One or two may have been imported into the U.S. Not sure. Plenty of replicas.

As to why U.S. import of the Turbo stopped after 1989, not sure. Not sure how strong sales were at the time. Sales likely were falling.

Take care,

Thanks for the info. No turbo cab in US then, at least not sold by Porsche.

Saw a couple for sale in Bremen, DE before I started on this site. They're mostly in Europe with about 180kkm though. Wouldn't blame them!

Default 944 turbo cabo

Saw a few low mileage cabo 951 turbos on mobile.de, if anyone is interested. Narrow search to 1991 944 convertibles and a bunch of S2 s and turbo's will come up.
