Default Regrind lifters (cam followers)?

I´m planning to change my camshaft and i´m wondering if i should regrind my lifters at the same time?

Are the 944 lifters flat or convex?

Darwin is getting wordy on us!

To break in a new cam you should run the engine at a fast idle for 20 minutes. 1,800 - 2,000 rpm or so is fine. Use the cam manufacturer's break-in lube and all should be well.

I'd replace them. I've never heard of anyone regrinding them, but it may be possible.

But are the lifters flat or convex from the beginning?

Strict rule is you should replace them with new but they are very expensive. I have re-used lifters on a different cam a couple of times and had no issues. Run them in with high ZDDP oil at about 2000+ rpm for at least 20 min.

If it was me I would buy some used ones to replace those two but that is just me.

Cam followers are not flat. They are slightly convex so that they rotate when the cam passes across them.

THey can NOT be flat. The convex shape allows them to rotate.

Are you guys sure? so this must be the first convex micrometer, I though the cam lobes are supposed to be rounded for that purpose

I thought the lifters were flat and the cam lobes were canted to force them to rotate. But, I have never investigated it.

I would get two used ones and move on. Check all of them though. The button on the top should be hard, if they compress, pitch it.
