Are you referring to my post? If so, I think you misread it...

My guess is they know exactly what they're doing there in Bogota. 85 octane at that altitude probably does just fine for most cars (as long as they stay up there in the thin air).
That's what I read.

Ok, but that referred to "most cars." With regard to the 951, in that same post, I said: "I'd suspect you'll do just fine with some boost, as long as everything else is working correctly. Seems unnecessary to completely eliminate all boost, but with a controller you can turn it down as needed."

I realize that altitude will offest most of the octane deficiency, but I was not convinced it would solve the problem 100%. The FQS might close the gap. But, what happens if I decide to take a roadtrip and take the car out of the mountains?

Would higher octane fuel be available on the coast (sea level)? I have not gotten an answer to that question yet. Most countries do not have regional fuels like the U.S. Maybe Columbia does, I do not know yet.

Driving a car with lower octane requirements mitigates this risk.

I talked to a colleague that worked in Columbia and he tells me that car enthusiasts are able to find higher octane fuels at specialty gas stations. Like the U.S., the cost goes up dramatically. He is not a car guy and I am not 100% convinced he is right.

I am still waiting for clarification from the Porsche Club in Columbia.

Thanks for the input.

I am 6'6" and weigh 300 lbs. I doubt I would fit in these cars. This is why I normally drive a Suburban or a BMW 7 series. The 944 is the only Porsche that I can fit in. I had a 928S4 for a while and I had to drive with my head turned sideways. I loved the car, but it was too awkward to drive and I ended up selling it.

Besides, I am looking forward to doing events with the Porsche club and I will need a 944 or 924S to do that.

Thanks for the input.

How do you fit in a 944 at that size? Seems like every guy who states their size in the US is huge!

I am mostly torso with average length legs. I have a small Momo steering wheel that is extended 3 inches on the steering column. I also replaced the stock seats with lower profile Recaros. Compared to 911s and 928s, 944s have more room for larger drivers.

^they do? 951's seem cramped compared to 911's but roomier than 928's... IMHO
maybe a 914 would fit the bill? dirt cheap to buy and maintain, run on dirt, twigs, and low octane gas lol, VW engine, handle well....

Big guys are just very proud of being big so they bring it up a lot. Please don't start the US fat jokes

No, I wasn't implying that he was fat...just a big guy. But most of the time I've found when guys state their sizes on Rennlist they all seem to be over 6' tall and 280lbs.

I'm a person of size myself and have plenty of room in my 86 951. On the other hand, when I get in Crazy Eddie's '88 silver rose, with psychedelic electric seats, it feels cramped. We've concluded that the uber electric seats just take up more room.

It's strange my brother's old 944 (84) seem to have much more seat room as well, than my car (88 TS)
I think Tom is correct, it seems the electric seats may take up more room?
Either way, my car does seem smaller ( at least on the passenger side seat area )

Its alright, I am fat and carrying 60 lbs more than I should be. Yes, I did play football when I was younger and have the bad knees to prove it. The purpose of my comment was that my size limits the cars I can drive. I am lucky that I somehow fit in a 944. My wife is pushing me towards a Cayenne. The Cayenne is an OK fit (Seat width and shoulders tight) and is similar to my Jeep Commander. I just do not see the Cayenne as a sports car.

Per the 914 comment. I have never driven a 914 before. How is the legroom and more importantly the shoulder space? If I were to fit, the car would be a good choice. I will be taking taxis and shuttles most of the time. The car is for running errands and for hopefully joining Porsche Club events.

I was driving a 955 Cayenne and 986 Boxster yesterday, both tight fits-which is a bit odd to me because my 996 feels very open/big inside, was also moving around a '77 Targa and very big inside as well.
914 has huge legroom and shoulder space is about same as an air-cooled 911 IMO, they are pretty slow but still a hoot to drive and so simple and care-free to maintain, most importantly-if something engine-related breaks, go find a VW for parts, to fix...if I didn't have to deal with snow/salt winters I'd have a 914 as my DD
If it was my situation, I'd be getting a 911SC or 914 2.0
