I have a 5th gear set from an S2 transmission (.73). I have no need for a short set.
I have zero idea what it is worth, any ideas?

Contact the 944 Spec guys, they have loads of the tall 5th gears laying around. BTW, you shouldn't be offering to trade gear sets, your short gear 5th is worth $4-500, the tall 5th is worth no more than $50-75.

There was a post by Kevin Gross in the recent trans thread on the N/A forum about interchangeability (lack of) of 5th gear sets between Turbo and N/A boxes.

Alan, not sure what box you have, but based on what Kevin stated, you might to check into that and get clarification before putting an N/A 0.730 gearset into a Turbo box (if that is what you are looking to do). The .778 S2 gearset is for sure compatible w/ a Turbo transmission.

According to Kevin's post, its an oiling problem due to different oil supply design between the turbo type and the N/A transmissions, not a physical/dimensional fitment problem.

The issue he brings up may just be a problem when installing a Turbo 5th gearset in an N/A transmission, and may not be a problem when installing an N/A gearset in a Turbo trans. Up to you if you want to look into it further.

Correct. Not clear from the OP which version of the transmission is being discussed. If it's a transmission as originally delivered in a 944 eight-valve, normally-aspirated car, then the taller 944S2 fifth gear will not work. If it's a transmission as delivered with a 944S, S2, or Turbo, the S2 gear set will work just fine. Good luck!

so, once and for all, what is the tallest 5th gear final drive combination for the 944 5 speed box?
is it the 944T box running an S2 5th?
