Default heather control valve - flow direction?

I'm replacing the heater control valve with a metal one (it's actially half metal half plastic now) and the new valve has a flow arrow marked on it. Does the coolant flow towards the firewall in this hose or away from the firewall?

I also poked around a local auto parts store for some different hoses and moved the location of the valve away from the hole at the top of the bell housing.

Coolant flows from the head to the HCV then to the firewall.

Thanks Thom! That's what I was thinking, but PET seems to show the opposite.

You can check out Clarks' coolant diagram here.

Where did you move the valve to? I definitely agree that there's too much stuff in that area above the bell housing!

I essentially cut the hose coming out of the firewall in half and moved the valve there, then found another hose with an L bend to come around to the head. I didn't move it that far, but if it leaks at the valve it should run down the side of the bell housing instead of thru the hole and onto the clutch.
