so, after doing my homework i found that there is only one aftermarket cat that is legal for our cars in CA:

by "homework", i was talking to my honda mechanic aki about my build, and i mentioned this situation. natalie (the owner's wife/office manager) asked the year/make and in about 30 seconds she tells me the following:
"36106. that's the only carb legal cat for your car. it's 2,5 inches."
they do a LOT of custom/crazy **** there. one of their builds was a street legal, full-size car "tricycle" with a turbocharged h22 motor. i believe every word they say when it comes to the letter of the law.

if anyone in the bay area needs a mechanic, take your car there. they know their ****.
anyways, i went to summit, entered in the carb number, and immediately pulled up the cat she told me to buy.
so i bought it! i also have a stock new FPR coming in from paragon. once i get the parts, i'll post pics of the build and how my smog process goes.
