Question Crank/Speed/Ref Sensors

Can any other make be used? I.e. VW, BMW or anything that runs the Bosch Motronic?

Ok cool.

Is the Speed and Reference sensor the same sensor? I.e. Interchangeable?

Bosch 0261210003 vs Bosch 0261210002 ???

I know this thread is ages old and the question is mostly answered but I would like to give more info for anyone who is wondering the same thing I was. The OEM part number is 0 261 210 003, Bosch average is $86 a sensor which seemed expensive. I found that 0 261 210 002 is the same part but with a little longer wire which in most cases is a good thing. 0 261 210 001 has a super long wire but will still work. I purchased my two sensors from Bimmers.com, I disregard BMWs heavily but they did have the cheapest price of $109 shipped. They are super fun to get out too if the aluminum corroded like mine. I had to remove the mount for both of them to hammer the second one out, no fun but its done and the car runs. All this money and time for two broken sensor connectors causing no start issues.
