Default Rim Widening?

Is it possible/plausible to widen a stock rim rather than buy a new or different style rim?
I like the rim style that I have but they are narrower than my stock one's and I would like to widen them to the stock width up front and a little wider in the rear. My stock rims are 16x8 front and 16x9 rear. My current boxster rims are 17x7 and 17x8.5.

I believe it's called pico tire and wheel in Los angeles. I'm taking the rims for hotrod to get widened. Car craft magazine did a big article on them for one of their project cars and had their rims widened

If you are looking for pricing, fill this out for a quote. I would think it would be easier to just buy a used set.

Does anyone know of a shop in the Bay Area that does it?

I just sent a set of wheels to Weldcraft. So far they've been excellent to work with over the phone.

They quoted me $200 per 15" rim.

I am just trying to avoid shipping costs/issues if I can. Anyone have experience with a Bay Area shop that widens rims?

Those Boxster wheels are hard to find. I've been looking for another set of rears to run on my front end for a while with no success.

I just got the first quote back from Team III in Hayward, $350 per wheel.

I am going to get one from wheel techniques in Santa Clara next.

Some years ago I had a pair of my Jalpa wheels widened from 7.5” to 10” by Eric Vaughn: (626) 358-6413, Monrovia, CA.

The widening is inwards, which is easily compensated for with spacers (and longer bolts) to get the right offset.

I sure hope what you receive back doesn't look like what is on their web site.

Scroll across until you see the picture of a widened polished wheel. Look at the welds. Wow.

And BTW, I would never drive a wheel that was butt welded and welded by hand. EVER.

FWIW... if you wide your rim, you need to get somone that supplies a new barrel that is slip fit over the cut down wheel, then welded on both sides of the overlap (after it was been trued).

The crap I see on Weldcraft is downright scary looking.
