Default how did i blow a hole in my valve cover?

i have a spare, but id still like to know how it happened.

this car has not been officially on the road yet, i've just gotten it together, previous problems:
-blown head gasket (white oil)
-cracked exhaust manifold in 2 place

other things i've done/fixed
-all new belts and pulleys on the front end
-new water pump gasket

story:
i went up and down the road a few times and gave it one good pull, it was running fine and i never heard anything go crack, then when i pulled into the driveway smoke started from under the hood and i was greeted with this!

when i did the head gasket i was care full to not remove the buckets from the valve cover, on a side note the oil pressure meter reads maxed out with the light on but i've just been figuring i have the wires hooked up backwards or some silly electrical problem and haven't paid much attention to it.

Someone else recently had the same issue.

IIRC the culprit was a bolt that got loose and wedged itself between the cam and cover.

those inner bolts one probably wasn't torqued correctly and got loose.

well now i feel dumb i was surprised how little torque was spec'd for those bolts

anyway next question,
what do i do about using the buckets out of this cam assembly with my other assembly? The other cam assembly i have does not have buckets and if i can find them they are not marked.

No problem with swapping cam followers between castings. You only, potentially, run into an issue when swapping followers and cam that have different wear patterns.

15 Bolts -- I have to count them everytime I pull the cam housing off and put them back on!

I had 14 one time -- couldn't find the 15th.... Pulled the hole assembly off -- only to realize I had put one on the fender and it blended itself in behind some wiring. Doh't

A long afternoon at the shop -- and you should be good to go -- check your oil and filter for debris,
hopefully everything blew out and didn't fall in.

I did. What a pain! I replaced the LR cam gasket with a OME one and that fixed most of the leak. Then I found the front Cam seal was leaking
So I fixed that one. So far, so good.

Now I have a noise coming from the right wheel when I turn left. I think it's the bearing. I'll replace them next week end.

Thanks for asking
