Replacements for 10 speaker system speakers?
 

My stock speakers in my 10 speaker doors are basically finished. I have an aftermarket head unit in the car, no amp.

I'm looking for direct replacements for the speakers, not interested in a big system, just want something that bolts in without modification and sounds decent...

Any suggestions?

I would like to know too.

I don't want to pour money into an acoustic space that CANNOT sound good no matter HOW many brand badges you throw at it...

...just want something to fit and sound acceptable. -Then I'll be happy.

My car stereo guys, The Specialists, were able to install Focal speakers in all the factory locations. If you have a good car stereo shop close, they can look at what you have and make recommendations. I also added two 8" subs in the rear wells. The system sounds great, and is running two Alpine amps.

Any modern speaker that is the same size as factory should work. The speakers behind the little rear windows are a bitch to replace. Using a good local stereo shop will match up what you have and warranty their install. If you don't have much power, make sure you purchase the most efficient speakers available. Kenwood makes good factory replacement speakers that won't break the bank.

They drop in. I deleted the smaller speakers and the three way crossovers and used the Boston stuff.

I used Boston Acoustics SE35 3.5" Speakers to replace the little ones. it took some cutting and filing to make them fit. The two screw holes for the mounting brackets are a perfect fit. Everything else is not. :(

The factory speakers are still available from the dealer for those spots but they are old technology and they are around $45 bucks per speaker.

It's funny we were just talking about this on the other forum. I'd just go with the factory and put some sort of bass blockers on the 3.5" speakers--those things always go. The factory crossovers can't be more than 12db/octave so having another filter in line should help.

If you're going to go with aftermarket 2 way components like Prettybird suggested, it's probably a good idea to leave the 3.5" speakers in place but unplugged so you don't have a large opening right next to a speaker that was designed to be, more or less, in a sealed chamber. Either way, very light speakers will help prolong the life of the plastic speaker panels, especially if you are more deliberate when you close your doors.

funny you mention leaving the little ones in place...all four of the speaker surrounds on my car were 90% missing. I ended up pulling the smaller speakers, but I sealed the holes with some Dynamat I had laying around.

I had thought about blocking those openings off, but figured the bad speakers were doing just as good a job as anything I'd make with only marginally more weight. Over the years I've had 3 sets of those 3-way front speakers and I have not in my life seen a 3.5" with a good surround.

The cutting and filing I did created some small gaps and some bigger openings you can see in the pics. Should I have those filled?
