Default Factory TPS questions?

Done a bit of searching but can't quite find what I'm looking for.

The guys that I'm working with seem to be under the impression that our TPS only works at idle and Wot, but not with partial throttle fuel enrichment. To quote:

"Throttle position sensor needs to be changed as current sensor appears to have a couple of dead spots in the carbon track which wants to throw up an error, the system is tuned off manifold pressure but needs tps to determine accel enrichment, overrun fuel cut, launch control and idle control start

We dont need to use the Porsche sensor, motec have a generic bosch sensor that should fit with minimal modification.

Your previous system only used the tps to sense idle zero throttle and full trottle request so it probably never threw and error"

Is this correct? Do I need to change to another sensor or should a properly working factory one do the job?

I good factory TPS will sweep across its resistance range without interruption. Clarks has tests for that. I think your tech is just saying you could get away with a scratchy/old/iffy TPS for the DME, but not with the new system.

In other words, a new properly working factory TPS is fine for the task?

As long as the motec can read a sensor that goes from 320 ohm with the throttle closed to 4700 ohms with the throttle open, then it should work fine.

Certainly does sound like your TPS is on its way out Patrick. As Tom has said the factory sensor is a potentiometer. It also shows a closed throttle and a full open throttle. Unlike the standard 944 TPS which only shows closed and open.(no potentiometer)

It's what I thought but just wanted to check. The Motec / Bosch unit is about half the price of the OEM one but will take a bit of fiddling around to make it work.
