No, the switch has always been to the Boxster unit using BOTH the controller and pump.

I'm having an issue with my Boxster ABS pump continually cycling on/off. I got the two row pump ending in part # "00", however it does start with 996. Did I get the wrong pump? Shop seems to think it's a CANBUS pump...

How and when is it cycling on/off?
What does it do when you brake and lockup?
All starts with 996, also the ones with CAN-bus.

I will try my Boxster ABS setup the coming days for the first time.

Cycling on/off whenever there's power to it.

Shop told me yesterday the harness plug I got for them didn't have the alternator trigger wired on it. I'm thinking that's gotta be the issue as the pump doesn't know when the car is running or not...

Has everyone got their ABS units working? Took me a while to troubleshoot mine - turned out the VW wiring harness I got had a slightly different pinout than a Porsche one and it tripped me up on wheel sensor configurations. Make sure you follow the wiring diagrams listed on this thread exactly or you will get an ABS warning light. Further... the engine needs to be running to get a confirmation on your warning light. It will light up and trip the relay with just the ignition on.
Hope this helps

Got the Boxster ABS working on a non-ABS car (1984 944), including warning light coming on with ign on but turning off when starting engine, etc. Got a bit confused about the possible need of an ABS relay but turned out it's not necessary as the 986 Boxster didn't use one.
ABS works great, thanks everyone for the info in this thread.

Nice Thom! I might set something similar in the future as well.

I assume you used the standard sensors/triggerwheels of the 944?

If someone wants to simplify the wiring just a little bit you can run both #10 and #15 to a switched power source. I got to test my ABS system yesterday for the first time. Felt a bit strange to have such a quick ABS modulation in a 944

As far as I have noticed it seems to kick in faster at slow speeds but slower at high speeds. Yes, modulation is quite faster than with the 944 ABS.

Interesting. I've only tested inside the garage from ~20 km/h so far. Track test on Saturday

Easy - throw away the washing machine and the cloth dryer.

Hmm, wonder if this is the start of a new trend...
