I'm running Dunlop SP9000's. They're amazing in the wet, and very good in the dry. I've also heard good things about Michelin Pilot Sports and Bridgestone Potenza S02 Pole Positions.

the new Bridgestone SO3 PP are state of the art. the older SO2 PP also good, and can prob be found at a discount now. Mich Pilot Sports are good, Yoko AVS Sport also good including the wet, and less $$ than the Pilots.

Kuhma Ecsta Supra 712,
They are cheap, they have great wet and dry grip, maybe not S03 levels, but they also cost less than 1/2 of what the S03's do. I am running 225/45/17 and 255/40/17's on mine and the whole set cost me 400 dollars. I have used mine on the street and track, and they are holding up quite well.

If you have money to burn buy the S03's, if you have have a little less money to burn buy the Yokohama AVS sports (also a great tire), and if you are on a budget but still want good tires buy the Kuhmo's.

Have the RE730s fallen out of favor for some reason? I'm tickled with mine.

Yes, the 730s fell out of favor due to the reported noise problems that surface after about 10k miles. I don't know what that is like as I'm a ways off 10k, but they are sure sweet at the moment. ;)

If you want a great handling tire that is inexpensive and very quiet, Yokohama AVSdB is a great choice. Mine are awesome.

Macabre 10-30-2001 02:50 PM

Hmm.. mine have more than 10k and there is no significant noise - but I have heard the same complaint. *shrug* Maybe it's just that I can't hear them over the 3" exhaust with no cat. I'd considered changing to something new for my next set but the affordable ($150 or under) options in ultra high performance 245/45/16 are pretty limited. Looks like the options are: RE730s, BFG t/a KDWs, SP8000s, Goodyear HP Ultra, Kumho ECSTA 712, P7000s, Yoko AVS intermediates, Falken GR Beta FK-451 and The Toyo Proxes T1-S just barely. Decisions, decisions..

I'll probably go with the Kumhos next since I can get them from discounttiredirect for $93 each.
