Default Coolant Reservoir

I can't really see where the coolant level is on my car. It is the stock reservoir? Any tips on how to check it. The plastic that ugly brownish color. Could this be cleaned enough to check the level?

Not trying to sound like our resident search *****, but you need to search for this topic... It's been beaten to death.

Here's the short answer... if it's just discolored, there isn't much chance to bring it back to white, you'll need to replace it with a good used one or buy new. If its coated on the inside with oil from a blown head gasket, you've got a chance to clean it up a bit. That's where searching will find you all the suggested methods to try.

Should have included this in my original post. It looks like there is some nasty stuff in the reservoir. I saw that some people have used Coffee to clean it out. Is that the best method?

I tried both coffee & kitty litter...neither improved it much. I ended up just biting the bullet and buying a new one. I have a spare that is less than a year old I'll be selling shortly if you're interested...the coolant/water level is very visible in it.

Before I bought a new one, I used a very bright light and held it up against the reservoir. If you shake the car, you can see the level.
