Post dipstick gasket

a while ago i misplaced the little red gasket that sits at the bottom of the dipstick tube causing an oil leak. finally got a replacement today, before i put it in i seem to remember someone posting about putting some kind of sealer on the gasket to get a better seal. anyone have any ideas?

I just used an O-ring and it seems to work out good. The O-ring is larger in diameter then the plastic piece which I actually removed. So it is just the O-ring and the dipstick sleeve(dont know the real name).

Some people use an extra o-ring or two, some use Yamabond 4. You can find it at motorcycle shops.

Another solution is attaching a spring to the dipstick to hold it down.

A little Yamabond-4 really helps to keep it sealed up as well. In fact, you don't need an O-ring at all and don't have to install the bolt on top with Yamabond-4.
