T04 is a type of compressor housing sold by turbonetics and garrett. e/46 is the compressor trim, size of wheel. A hydrid turbo is a product you end up with when parts from different turbos are combined. Like turbonetics compressor housing with a garrett center section and a kkk hot side with a garrett cliped wheel. hope this helps yasou.

"our" hybrid turbos usually consist of a kkk center section though.

with a Garret center, you could run "big shaft" 's and in return, be able to run HUGE compressor wheels in a T4 series housing.

Like a T61 in a t4......... the T61 flows more than THREE times the amount of air that a k26 can !!!!

Yeah, hybrid can mean anything. You can start with a 90% KKK turbo such as the stock K26/6 and turn it into a 'cheater' by installing a larger Garrett compressor wheel (after machining compressor-housing to match).

Or you can go all the way to a 90% Garrett with ball-bearing center section, full-Garrett compressor & turbine wheels with only the KKK turbine housing retained to bolt up to the stock 951 downpipe and crossover.

My center section isn't a kkk it's a semi replica with a ball bearing machined in.

Some manufactures cast their own "replica" kkk center and hot side housings.

What is a 'semi' - replica.

By deffinition, wouldn't a replica already not be completely the real thing?

Luke, when you say you've only seen 1 watercooled center section, are you meaning installed on a 951? Every Volvo Turbo from 1987 to 1990 came with a watercooled Garret T3.

A true replica would be mean patent infringement.

www.egarrett.com You'll find plenty of watercooled Garretts here. Garrett is a marketing name of Airesearch, I think they have quite a few watercooled turbos as well. Most dating back to the 70s and 80s.

The Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and SVO mustang used watercooled Garretts also. Along with the TDI VW, that turbo is on the site under OE GT-17.

What type performance were these turbos in the Volvo's capable of and would it be worth calling junkyards to get a good condition turbo off one of these Volvo's?

Garrett is part of Honeywell.
Airesearch is the first name of the company started by Cliff Garrett back in the 40's or 50's
Previus name was AlliedSignal and now Honeywell.

FYI,
Honeywell makes therostats, Aerospace avionics, Jet Engines (turbos are really mini jet engines), and Consumer products such as Prestone and Fram.

The Garrett Turbo divsion is in in Torrance Californina.
