Mitsubishi invented balance shafts. Every manufacturer has to pay royalties to Mitsubishi to use balance shafts. Since it is a 4-cylinder, you are basically stuck with them.

No, I am saying that it is by far the best choice (for performance).

Uhhhh, performance?

I thought it was for smoothness. The balance shafts counteract the inherent vibration in a 4 cylinder engine.

Yes, but it is that or a huge harmonic balancer. The balance shafts suck less power than a massive harmonic balancer.

Turbocharger info on the 951S from Porsche documentation. Reads to me like it's a 26/6. Make up your own mind..........

Here's a photo comparing a K26/6 hotside versus a K26/8. Pretty simple to see the difference...

(ignore the larger compressor since it's a Garrett)

Where did you get a garret tha uses a kkk hot side for a #8? Most places I see have their own when it comes to larger than a #6? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

So Danno,

Are you saying that externally, the #8 is the same as a #6? But, obviously, internally, the #8 is larger, right? Am I beginning to get this?

Yeah, I bought this turbo used. It was a Stg.2 ball-bearing Garrett hybrid. Using the #8 hot-side from a TurboS is a simple way to make an upgraded turbo because you won't need custom flanges or anything.

Yes, externally both the #6 & #8 turbines look the same. Only difference is in the inlet (about 1/2" bigger on the #8). In the photo, the KKK has been ground off on the #8 turbine...

Danno,

Where did you get the studs from. Are they just 10mm? cause 10mm seems alittle small?

The studs were used on the stock K26/6. When I went to the Garrett hybrid with the #8 hotside, it used bolts to attach to the downpipe. Much easier to install.
