The manufacturing and supply has completely gone away the past 2 years. You can't even find a pair of used tires on ebay or anywhere else in that size anymore.

That is unbelievable. I imagine there is at least SOME demand out there to at least justify one of the big players (Continental??) to continue to make. The Fuch was such a popular wheel. That baffles me.

Honestly, unless it's blue skies and 75 degrees or less, the 951 is tucked away in the garage. If I had to go with slicks, that would not be ideal but it would still be safe. I just can't believe not a single maker produces that size anymore... Very odd.

This is exactly why I will keep all the original components for the car, in case I ever sell, I can revert back for the new owner.

Odd that they would produce this: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

But not use the same manufacturing to make a street tire. Can't imagine the production cost would be that much more, already making that size of tire...

Matt O.

I have the 8's and 9's on my 951....and have been searching for the 245's lately as my tires are starting to show signs of needing to be relaced and I can tell you finding tires (245's) is a pain in the *** for them....but the look is well worth IMHO.

There are two other options, one is going to 17" Fuchs (Pelican sells them) and the 930 in your avatar looks to be sporting them, or running 225/50/16 on all four corners which will expand your options greatly.

Also, try PM'ng a RACERBVD (AKA Byron)....he is a FUCHAHOLIC and he told me he has a contact or friend at Continental and that they make the 245/45/16 as well.

This place is selling the 245/45/16 Fuzions ---> https://www.onlinetires.com/cart.php

There is also another brand called Nexen (very mixed ratings on line), $370 installed @ PEPBOYS for (2) 245/45/16 and (2) 225/50/16....with a buy 3 get one free deal.

Here is a link to the Nexens and is currently running the deal ---> http://www.pepboys.com/tires/sbs/245...4247925L/00262

Also, below is a teaser of what your 951 will look like with FUCHS

Scott,

Thanks for the data... and pics! That definitely motivates me. The situation I have run into is that a couple years ago I purchased the perfect 951... just happens to be an '88. And that would not at all be a problem if it wasn't for the fact, in my mind, the perfect wheels to compliment are the Fuchs.

Did you check out the Toyo Tire links I posted? Looks like there are a few options for Toyos in the 225/245 line-up. Both slicks and street. I'm going to call Discount Tire tomorrow and see if they even can order them up. They list Toyo as one of their brands, but who knows if they can get them.

Great looking Zermatt Silver... love it.

The 930 in the picture, I sold a couple years ago. It had 16x7 and 16x9 Fuchs. I was able to come by a perfect set of 16x7, 16x8, and 16x9 Fuchs, which I had Harvey Weidman refinish to classic black/anodized finish a couple years ago (only the 8s and 9s, 7s are still polished). It's about time to get them on the 951 where they belong.

Thanks for the help.

Matt

I had heard that tires were tough to come by...my dad has been crawling up my *** about giving back his fuchs for the 89. They should be 7s in the front and 9s in the back. I guess I am not that broken up about giving them back since R compounds might not even be available. I was planning on having him take them back in the mazda when we go to Japan, since they are keeping that car during that 6 months.

I'm in the same boat. Own a 87' 951 wanting the swap. I have everything needed just one question. For shocks, struts/inserts, Or coilovers. Do I order for 86' or 87'?

Matt,

This might have been in one of your posts, but are the 8s 951 or 911 fitment? IIRC only the 951 7s and 8s will clear the front calipers. Just something to think about before you start swapping the parts over.

Ian, excellent question, thank you. I HOPE they are 944 because I purchased them from a RLer who had them on a 951... Which part number should I be looking for? I'll double check. Thanks!

Matt - Try searching from this site, they have a few selections. I have done business with them in the past and they have always delivered the goods:

www.victoriatire.com

I am a fan of the original fuchs as well. Good luck with you r search and let us know what you decided on.

Regarding tires, if I'm not mistaken, there is a ContiSport in that size. At least back when I was doing the research. I've owned the wheels for a couple years. I'm guessing the tire sizes for Fuchs are becoming hard to come by...?

Thanks for the data.
HAHA you crack me up. your car actually looks perfect. Your car its not going to be the same. here let me knock some sense into you.

http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/WHEELSLR.html

sell your current wheels and get these. and they will be better and then you wont have to hack up your really nice car.

Just use the R888s. I used these on a daily basis for some time. No problems except they will wear out faster and not great in standing water....but you do get a lot more grip than road tyres. From what you were saying you only take it out on clear sunny days anyway.

Excellent find!

Matt, this may be your only option. $229 per tire (rears) isn't exactly cheap, but you're NOT going to find Conti's (especially N1 Conti's) in the US any longer from what I can tell. Trust me, I looked long and hard. I got real lucky and found a NOS complete set from a fellow RL'er recently, but I'm going to need more tires in the future if I expect to keep the '89 fully original.

Wonder if RL could get a quantity discount on ordering, perhaps order enough for a container to be packed (there's a lot of 911, and 928 guys that need these tire sizes as well)?

Anyone in the UK that knows of this place?

Matt,

The 8's should be part number: 951.362.117.00 (well that last two digits would change depending on factory finish, IIRC .00 were for the black centered wheels).

Both 7s an 8's will start with 951 for the 944 turbo fuchs.

I know with 7 inch 911 fuchs you can use a small spacer to get them to clear the brakes, but I am not sure there is enough room under the front fender to add a spacer and have the 8s fit. Lets just hope you have the proper 8s and that you don't need to find out.
