Question venturi tube : why? and OK or not?

What does the venturi tube underneath the intake manifold do? How do you know if it is OK or not; what to check for? I will have my manifold off in a few days to replace some bad hoses that have been bleeding off some of my "precious boost" so I want to replace anything else that could be questionable rather than go back later to do the same job over....right!

Thanx to all!

Hi Frank,

I was told the Venturi tube was designed to create vacuum for the brake booster when the turbo is creating boost. I am replacing hoses under my manifold right now. I ordered a hose kit from Powerhaus which eliminates the venturi. I'm not sure how well it will work because it seems that without it I won't have any brake vacuum under boost, but then again I should n't need brakes under boost, now should I?
