DME VS TEC-III
Ok.. after all the talk of MAF and DME combos VS stand alone.. we will have dyno figures to match sometime this summer.
Alan C and myself are building pretty much the same motor for our cars. 100% rebuilt with 1st over pistons, 3 bar regulator, larger injectors, wategate, turbos are diffrent brands but close enough as to not sway it too much. I will run a MAF with ARC-2, K27 chips. Alan will run a TEC 3. We will both use the same dyno facility to tune the cars, so there will be little descrepancy. I expect about a 30 horse advanatge on Alan's car, but you never know. We will also be able to test drivability, idle, things like that. Should be fun! |
Anyone,
What do you know about the GTA efi systems? Everybody talks about SDS and tec2/3 but I hear the GTA systems clip right in and use stock sensors. THere is no LCD screen. In stead you use your own laptop? |
Do you mean DTA?
I never heard of GTA. Konstantin |
Perry,
The owner with the system that is the most tuneable will have more hp and better driveability. Is Allen using a MAP sensor set-up on his car or is he using a MAF sensor? If he is using a MAP sensor and you're using a MAF, he may have more than 30 hp over you. Removing the MAF allows much better air-flow and the TEC III system is completely tuneable. He will be able to handle well over 800 hp with his set-up. Granted, I don't think his engine will hadle that kind of power but his TEC III system will enable him to do so if he likes. Jim Nowak |
My money's on Alan at the moment. What boost levels are you guys going to run?
|
Both motors will be virtually the same. He is going with a MAP.. both cars 18psi.
Since everything is close to the same (be nice if we had the same turbo), this should be a good test of Modded Stock vs Stand alone. I know he will be higher.. but the question is how much? TEC-III can handle 800hp.. but I want to see what what the gains will be if I just tossed the MAF/DME combo and went with a TEC-III. This way I can and not spend any money! |

This is great! Perry didn't notice the 968 crank.
Alan |
Just kidding Perry.

Not at 100.5mm!!!! Oh.. and I am coming over to steal your suspension!
|
As soon as the Motons arrive you can buy it cheap.

Alan.. checked my headers.. thank god something is going right... they are not cracked!
I'll be around this weekend if you need some help. Oh.. and bump.. want to keep this up here for more opinions and HP guesses. |
Perry,
I plan to drop the car at Dave's either Saturday afternoon or Sunday noon. We hope to get the engine in the car Sunday. Had a few last minute gasket gremlins which have held us up. The Tec3 should show up mid next week at the latest. |
Would love to see the outcome of this. If I have problems with my DME I would strongly consider tossing it out and replacing it for a one of the units describe here or in other posts.
Too bad there is no consensus as to what route to take :( I know is depends on what will be the final use (street or racetrack). But a few solutions require the making of special parts. There does not seem to be a “kit” I could buy with all parts included. Well, I just hope my DME continues to work for many years… Let us know how it goes!! |
Since Jamie mentioned it...944Enhancement will be offering a complete bolt in kit for the TecIII. I have been finishing up the installation of our first units and once I am (this is important) completly satisfied that it can be bolted on by a 'regular' person it will be available. If any one wants to know details let me know.
BTW - my money is on Alan! PS - what are you guys running for turbos? Chris White |
