Could the 951 be the new Supra?

... Because drag is only about peak hp right
And yep your right, that isn't a fair match because the 2.5L is such a high-revving peaky motor, lol.
Besides, no need to get in a huff - just trying have some fun with our local LS-swapped guys.

I don't think anyone is truly focusing on 1/4 mile stuff, more just having a bit of fun and seeing what can happen. We are all very aware that these cars were never designed for this type of action, but it's interesting to see what the little underdog can do when pressed. As we've said many times, these cars really shine in the twisties or on the track.

For me personally, I don't care what this car was designed for. I enjoy going up to the track weekly and have done so for the last couple months barring rain. It's been a ton of fun hanging out with my old friends and also continually improving my times and speed.
Also, I really don't understand why eveyone assumes that these cars are not made for the quarter mile?
The CV problem has apperently been fixed thatnks to 95ONE, We have come up with a great way of consistently launching them well. Like I said earlier, the 968 trans is quite a bit stronger based on the ring gear size. I am really looking forward to seeing what the true potential is. Looking back at my recent excursions I have done a few things already that I have been told were impossible and Actually I even thought were imposible ( I have ran a 1.6 sixty foot and have ran a few 1.7's) if I would have gotten that sixty foot on my better run It would have been quite a run at that boost level.
So my thinking is that I can improve greatly on my current setup and then go to a 3.0 16 valve and really get it on. There should be no reason it could't run in the tens with my sixty foots and an additional 200 hp. I'm no newb to this stuff and If I thought it was all wasted effort I would have given up years ago trying to create my "dream car" (probably nowhere near most peoples dream car, but I don't put a great emphasis on the show part anymore)
Oh and yes taking it up canyon roads at 70-100 mph is also a great amount of fun. I'm sure the racetrack (road) is also great fun but I'm not as familiar with it and It is a bit more complicated to get to for me.
Hell, it's been so easy for me to go drag race my car that I just decide on a whim (kind of like tonight, I'm sitting here thinking about throwing some stuff in the hatch and going again tomorrow night.)
That is fun to me..not planning, preparing,towing...etc. Just go rip it up and enjoy myself.

Do a search (here and on pelican) with my name and E85 and all the crap that was thrown around a few years ago. i used to sit there and laugh (also argue) at all the naysaying. Now it seems everyone is using this crazy fuel.
I'm hoping the potential of these cars falls along the same lines.

I definately don't operate in the box.

I fixed the squat problem and now I can launch even harder but still get tire spin even on the best pavement. It's tricky not getting totally squirrely right out of the box. I guess the 285's are lacking. It's fun dusting new BMW's that cost 10x as much.

On the two step I couldn't hook for **** at the track or on the street. I figured out that I need to keep the boost down and then ramp it up. That helped quite a bit. I wan't to put some tires on. but I'm afraid that it will make the clutch slippage worse.

Do like I did, go with a 12" Clutch
That reminds me. I got a spare bump-stop kit to sell off if anybody hardcore drags. $80 to any US-48.

And No, the 951 is not a Supra unless you can stab a bullet-proof trans. The only "Supra" 944 I know of is being built by Eric Hill....
Nas-T and the rear will take some abuse too.

+1, my 951 will never see 11 sec's! My little Tercel will be my quarter mile car, if I shatter a tranny in it, I can go to Pick and Pull and grab another for $175 bucks! Funny thing is there are Tercels running 11's with stock axles!

Perhaps the 951 is more like the "new" RX7.
Nimble platform, possible to make a lot of power with but constantly breaks down and should be enjoyed at intermediate power levels
