Default Anyone running 225-50-16's?

Like to know what to expect in looks and performance compared to the extinct 245-45-16
I heard that it could effect my speedometer's accuracy and the tire is taller and wondered if it's noticeable?

I am running 225-50-16 on the rear 8" BBS wheels on the Red 944.

I did notice that the Garmin says I am going 3 to 4 MPH slower than the odometer says since I changed the stock 15" wheels to the 16 " wheels.

I looked for a up close picture of the wheels and found this one.

Spammajamma,

The 245/45 is not extinct and I also saw a posting from one of their "sponsors" on here espousing this....I almost didn't buy a pair of 16x9 Fuchs for my car because of this myth...I believe tire rack has decided not to sell it most likely due to profitability and also cost and volume.

Check out a company called MR. Tire on the web (their website no longer supports the 16 inch size) and call the local shop....or go to a local tire shop and talk to them...while there is not an abundance of tire manufactures....both Continential and Fuzion make the 245/45 and with Porsche now selling the 80's FUCHS again and their relationship with Continental you can bet at least Conti will making them for a while....the myth that the 245/45 is extinct....is exactly that a myth.

Default now if I can just cancel the order from Tirerack I made yesterday morning

Thanks for the link, I was sure I read a thread that stated that the 245-45-16's were nla from anywhere and I did some research on a few sites and only found competition tires
I may try the Nexxen, cheap and read a few reviews that gave them thumbs up, need tires to last until my fronts are done, older bridgestones that are at half tread

I'm running 225/50R16's on the rear phonies (winter tires) and 205's up front. My speedo is off about 5 mph over 38 mph but with the 17's on there now, it's 3-4 mph off.

As far as I'm concerned, this size is toast. There are one or two no-name brands out there (aka Fuzion, Nexen), but no long-time player in the tire world is making them. I wish it wasn't true because I've got 2 full sets of 16's and now I need to decode which late model wheels don't make the car look like a tuner...

Its interesting that the speedo is off at all since

1) the BASE 944T tire combo was 205-55-16 front and 225-50-16 rear
2) The 951S, i think, is the ONLY turbo that came with 225/245 combo. While it wouldn't truly suprise me, I don't know if porsche made different speedo/gears for the two different cars.. maybe they did though?

A 245-45-16 has tire sidewall height of 110.25mm A 225-50-16 had a sidewall height of 112. If you can spot 1.5mm (per sidewall), thats pretty impressive.

225's are fine for a 944, and that's what I always ran on my 924S - on the street and at the track. The 944T on the other hand simply needs more rubber. 245's are ok for a stock motor, but turn up the horsepower a bit and they become inadequate very quickly, especially if you don't have LSD.

What most of the turbo guys are being forced to use is the 245/50-16, which is noticeably taller than the 245/45-16 unless you go with a taller front tire too.
