1/4 Mile Run at Bandimere (Colorado)

2 Attachment(s)
Sid and myself decided to go for some runs at Bandimere here in Denver. We lined up this run, and IIRC it was the best run for both of us.
Both cars are on E85. Sid's car is using a GT30r sized turbo, at 16psi, and C-Tune (clutch-limited, starting to slip). My car is using a K27/8, 20psi, and M-Tune.

The popping/backfire is due to the 2-step, which holds RPM at ~4000 to help build boost at the line, and allows flat-foot-shifting.

Finally, I attached a screen-shot of the weather data right after our runs. The effective altitude was 9000ft! Typically vehicles run at least a full second slower here then they do at sea-level. For reference, stockish LS1/LS6 Camaros/Corvettes tend to run mid 14seconds.

And yes, Sid got a hole-shot on me :surr:

That was some fun up there last night. Who would have thought that _I_ would lower boost to go faster. I can't wait to be able to really let it go. This was very impromptu and the way the cars are driven daily (except I usually run more boost). I was fairly pleased considering I wasn't really prepared.

I want to do it again with a new pressure plate!!

I had some faster 1/8th mile traps with the higher boost but it just wouldn't hold.

Spent many a day at Bandimere in my younger years! Some great memories in my Chevy at High School Days. I spent every waking minute working on that car trying to make it faster. I never had any money because I spent every dime on my car. I guess some things never change.

Looks like a lot of fun.

Nice! Looks like a lot of fun guys. Sid was going all out with the burn out prior to staging so I believe that's why he's got .279 on you.

Lol, not sure where you saw that.. I didn't do a burnout all night. :) I actually ran out of the rubber most of the night.

Now the 2step was probably why, however Josh did get a similar 60' earlier. Just missed it on that one, good for me bc he would have killed me.

Really cool video - thanks for posting!

how much hp are you guys running at that boost levels and corn gas...330 for the gt30 and 380 for the kkk?

dillon410021 08-18-2011 10:40 PM

dang, nice runs

V2Rocket 08-18-2011 10:41 PM

almost 13 flat at 5800/9000 ft??

with a 944 rear-end??

:burnout:

I always believe with the right combo our cars can be 12 sec...maybe not all day but very doable. Good times!

Thanks for posting guys. Looks promising. It's a shame we have to go light with our cars off the line. Maybe we get over protective. Although Sid got off nicely. Josh, what do you think are the downsides of running the 2-step / flat shift?

ps, note Wayne Gill's R/T @. 001!! I'd say he's more of a clairvoyant than a driver, lol.

Thanks! We had a great time... Now if we could only get some of the other 944/951/948 guys to come out :to_order:

Both cars were right around 340rwhp at that altitude/boost. Sids setup is quite a bit more efficient/powerful, but his slipping clutch kept him from turning up the wick.

At sea-level (or even a little lower effective altitude) both cars are easy 12 second cars. The best part is both cars are daily drivers

If you properly pre-load the car for launch, the possibility of breaking parts is greatly reduced... If you look closely, you will see the rear-end of my car squat slightly before launching. Running the 2-step allows us to come off the line with power, instead of just engine momentum. This means I can be less harsh with clutch engagement. Again, reducing the drivetrain shock. Once rolling flat-foot shifting eliminates any "power-shifting" as the RPMs are matched to the next gear. Additionally, my boost never fell below 10psi, so as soon as I'm in the next gear, and the clutch is fully engaged, there is no wait for boost. I suppose the only real downside is the added heat in the exhaust from the fuel burning in the exhaust (why you see/hear the popping), and the flat-foot-shifting will only work for up-shifts, not down-shifting.

Here is an earlier run, against an Mitsubishi Evolution X... I waited at the tree, building boost, but still ran down the Evo :burnout:
BTW, a good flame out the tail-pipe on 3rd-4th shift

at that boost ( I think it was closer to 17 psi) i was probably about 330ish at that trap speed. Josh a little higher (little over 340). If you look though, my 1/8th was actually higher.

Josh's car weighed 3120 with him in, it and mine was 2960 with me in it.

damn guys...having spent a lot of time at the drags and having lived at altitude, WOW nice job!

Loved seeing you run down the Evo!!!!

95ONE 08-19-2011 12:54 AM

Sid, nice 60 foot. I know how hard it is to get a good 60' without expecting to trash the transmission. I also noticed that the drag goes downhill. (Well, it looked like it did. Many Japanese altitude tracks look like they do the same. I think my eyes might be crooked though.) I guess it doesn't... If Sid knows, he knows. :)

SOOOOOO glad to see some guys out running their cars. I miss those days.
