951 CV joint question
 

Any hints on bulletproofing these suckers? I go through 2 or 3 of these a year from agressive driving... Just blew one this morning, first for 2002 =).

I have used, for our 370WHP turbo VW, Shafts from If enough are interested he might make some for the 951's

I've been using their lightened racing cv joint and it held up for the entire race season and upon inspection last week they look great! Slimed 'em all up and reinstalled. They're not cheap but I hate replacing 'em so they're worth it !!! <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

How much did they set you back? What boot kit did you use?

Yes keep us posted on that price,,as I am getting ready to repack my 75K ones.

I can't remember where it was or on what board but there was a reference between the ones that Porsche used for the 951 and the ones for the VW bus. Anybody remeber that thread? I can't remember if it was for the 86 or 87 & up. The big thing was that the VW axle was half the cost of the one listed for Porsche of course.

the 951 cv joints are the exact same peice that is used on the VW vavnbog (van/bus thingy) ;)

Those were used from '86 to mid-'88 on the 951. Jason @ Paragon has replacement CV-joints for about $40 I think.

Luke, let me know how replacing the CV joints works out. I'm pushing 196k-miles on my car with heavy track usage and I'm surprised my CVs have held up. Did grease and flip them at 125k miles so I'm thinking they're ready to be replace sometime soon. I might just buy a complete set of the later axle though... Heard they were stronger...

I think the reason why I blow so many CV joints is because of the abuse they take. I do a lot of launch starts...

With the old K26, I had to launch at around 5500rpm, which spins the tires, and regains traction at around 3200rpm. Any lower rpm of a launch and it'll bog.

With the new HR stage 3 setup, I launch at 3000rpm, the wheels spin to 4000rpm and traction is regained at about 3200rpm as well. After about 0.1s of calm all hell breaks loose and I rocket away. Of course this is with the low boost settings, on the high boost settings the wheelspin is uncontrollable in 1st and 2nd gear (winter tires though...). The AVC-R's gear based boost control will help out when the S03's gets installed.

I just replaced them just 22,k miles ago too. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />
