Post Hesitation on my new baby? Help!

Well, I just bought an 86 944 turbo and I've noticed something disturbing-- when I floored it in 1st, then to 2nd, then to 3rd, partway through third all of a sudden my car lurches forward like it has lost all its power... any ideas?

you might be over boosting, this is a protection built into your chips. you might want to check and see if your wastegate is working properly. what does the boost gauge read when this happens? any mods done to the car previously?

I had a problem like this and the source was that I had a crack in the rubber pipe that went from my intercooler to my turbo...I relpaced it as well as my blow off valve at the same time and it went away... hope this helps

Sounds like overboost protection is kicking in; cutting off your fuel. You shouldn't be seeing more than 0.75bar on your boost gauge.

What does it do when it dies in 3rd gear anyway? Does it completely die, like the engine lost all power, or does it stumble and cough, but continues? If you let off the gas and floor it again, does it recover? If you gradually bring on full-throttle in 3rd, can it accelerate to redline?

Okay the boost seems to be about 1.7 bar or so when this happens, but of course I'm driving and trying to check the boost at the same time... I'll see if I can get someone else to look at the gauge.

As far as what it does, it seems to lose most of its power all of a sudden, but is fine when I let off the gas, then press on it again.

Edit: heh, I don't think I have a safe place to see if I can accelerate to redline in 3rd
