M030 coilovers on 86 front
My car comes with the M474 Koni option.
However, the struts need replacing. I am given the opportunity to purchase some less used M030 front coilovers. I have 2 questions:
1. Do they bolt in to an 86?
2. In order to match the front/rear what would I have to do with the rear suspension? Would new Koni rear shocks do?
Thanks in advance!

I think the M474 struts are rebuildable by Koni... I'm not sure, but I'm reasonably sure I've heard that before. Also, my understanding is that the M030 option is just a Koni yellow adjustable with (perhaps?) a different spring rate...
For what it's worth, the Koni Hack is easy, fairly inexpensive and definitely a great option.

I was looking at this TODAY $$$$$$$$$$$$
I was over at the Porsche dealer today. My 1986 951 has the M474 sport suspension ( a $221 option ) and I was checking on my options for replacement etc with Porsche parts. The suspension on my car is almost the final part of a pretty comprehensive re-do of my 951.
According to the computer it thinks that the 474 option is on my car anyway. Interestingly the window sticker does not show the option codes on it with the prices.
Anyway the replacement Konis are a whopping $594.00 EACH. $$$$$$$$
So I too am looking to see if these Konis can indeed be re-built as Crackership talked about before. It seems there were a couple of places doing it. But I am going to get a call in to Koni.
Has anybody done this?
Lex, did you find out anything more??

Yes, you will be able to get them rebuilt by Koni - I believe around $500 for all 4 struts.
I am however probably going to go with a different setup since the suspension is just not stiff enough with the M474 option. I am considering the Bilsteins down the road.

I too am interested in that. Are you talking about the Bilstein Turbo Cup Porsche set up? Which Bilstiens do you think fit the bill on these best?
I know the Bilstien Escort Cup from Paragon runs about $2000 plus and the FireHawk runs about $1600 plus. I have not talked to them on the phone about converting the Konis - but a call to them and to Koni is in order for me.
When I talked to the shop they had indicated that they thought the Porsche part number Bilstein (Turbo Cups) were still available through Porsche. But I might hate to see how much they are.... YIKES!
And the M030. I should know but did the M030 start in the next model year (1987) and later?

If I can have my original ones rebuilt by Koni I think I would go that way. Then springs too.

For the firehawk and turbo cup from bilstein you can choose the spring rate for the front when you order. The biggest difference between the two is that the cups also have coils in the back allowing you to stiffen the rear by either just running coils and removing the torsion bar or augmenting the torsion bar with some coils.
The M030 was available from 88 on Turbo S and 89 on all Turbos as an option: http://944turbo.net/?p=277
