Trick T-Stat retaining ring tool
I'm new to this board, so this may be old news, but I only found one burried reference to this thing (without a specific ID) in several searches that did return lots of horror storries about changing the stat.
The tool is a "GM FWD Axle Retaining Ring Expander", manufactured by Lisle (part no 72500). I was turned on to it by a local Porsche shop, as the only way to make this chore tollerable.
It's basically a small, inside snap-ring plier, but with a threaded rod between the arms that allows the tips to be clossed gradually and locked. Arms are short enough so that the ring is accessable no matter what direction it was installed.
Should be available through any autoparts store that carries Lisle tools (pretty much all of them).
