1/4 mile and 0-60 gtech times w/basic mods

I've seen lots of people post times using a gtech before but no one with who's only got the most basic mods. I made some runs last night and thought people might be interested in the numbers. I'm not interested in drag racing but the 1/4 mile is a good indication of power, even if you're not abusing the tranny.

The car:
'86 951- APE2 chips & Manual Boost Controller at 15lbs boost. No LSD.

My average time was 13.8X in the 1/4 with very consistent 5.5 sec 0-60 times.

I made a number of runs in both directions in a safe non populated location. I didn't baby the car but I didn't abuse it either. Launches consisted of revving to 3500 RPM and engaging the clutch quickly but not suddenly. Anything over 3500RPM would result in pure wheel spin.

Keep in mind that temps where I am are about 33 degrees F so this benefits the power output greatly. It also creates traction problems as the combination of more power, cold tires and cold pavement creates a lot of tire spin at the top of 1st and 2nd.

I've seen enough other experience with the gtech in other hands to trust the 1/4 mile times to within +/-0.1 secs.

I've cornered weighed my car before (3150 with me in the car, we used 3350 to include the weight of my 200lb passenger) so I plugged the weight in to try the HP setting and saw 250hp at the wheels. I've less faith in those numbers but they aren't out of line given the cars I can keep up with, pass or get passed by at the road track.

So a 13.8X 1/4 mile for around $300 in mods is pretty acceptable in my book.

I ran a couple 5.2's in completely stock form with a leaking blow off vavle.

My Gtech times were around 12.93 with my worst being a 13.33 all in the upper 115mph range. Also I shot off constant 0-60 times of 5.01 and a one time best of 4.93.

Are you having big traction problems Dan?
These car's are hard as hell to launch!!

These times are consistent with what I'm getting with Autothority chips, Lindsay Boost Enhancer, and K&N filter.

Fun little car.

I have probably launched my car a total of 4 times, but I think that is the crital point in obtaining decent 0-60/1/4 mile times. These cars are impossible to launch with open diff's. You either "Bogg" or "Spin"!

Dan87951 01-13-2002 08:26 PM

I'm I having traction problems?? I think a constanst 5.01 0-60 is very respectable. I also did my runs in 30 degree weather with snow on the grass as I did not have my gtech in the summer.

Luke 01-13-2002 08:40 PM

Do you have an lsd?

We're practically neighbors. Sure is strange weather!

Dan87951 01-13-2002 10:19 PM

Sure do!!

Lucky guy!!

I think I might weld my open diff. when I get my new tranny.

I've used a G-Tech after running at the drag strip. While the E.T.'s were, for all practical purposes, the same (drag strip was actually quicker), the speed on my G-Tech showed 135.2 through the 1/4 mile. At the strip, I was at 131.4. Called G-Tech, they told me this was a common complaint. They believe that their speed is accurate, and they have a very convincing argument. But, it's kinda irrelevent, since the standard is the track 1/4 mile. G-Tech's argument is something to the affect that, at the strip, the top speed is measured for 132 feet and averaged. This includes the last 66 feet of the 1/4 mile and 66 feet after the 1/4 mile. While the G-Tech gives you the speed at the precise moment you have traveled 1/4 mile. If you think about it, you are still accelerating during the last 66 feet. Then you are slowing down after the 1/4 mile, but your speed is still being measured and averaged. It makes sense that the G-Tech might be more accurate for that exact moment, but still and probably never the standard. 12.2 seconds @ 131.4 mph, 3020 lbs. W/O driver, 18 lbs of boost and 34 psi in my 245 mm Dunlops. Poor traction.

hello
can someone do the folkowing test and tell me the time?
Start at 3000 rpm in third gear go on WOT and stop teh time from 4000 to 6000 rpm in third gear.
I would like to know the times.
A stock car from my friend with APE chips and LBE needs 7,3-7,6 sec with two people in teh car and half tank gas.
My best was 4.5 sec with MAF bigger Turbo etc.

Rage2?
Paul?
89944Turbo?

Thanks

Konstantin

Konstantin , my 60-100 is 6.1-6.2 seconds.
Thats with me (130lbs) and a passanger(150lbs) and I would guess a half tank of gas, I don't really remember.

Only mods are listed below..I expect my 4000-6000rpm time in 3rd gear to be quite a bit lower than your friend's 7.3-7.6sec time...the mid 5 second range seems reasonable...

Something's wrong with your friend's car...I think

Hello
the 60-100 mph is the same as the 4000-6500 rpm in third. Let see what the others says.
I also think my friends car should be a little faster but... I don't know. He spend a lot of $$$ to keep it running well and the car has low miles but the intake is full of oil. The car needs a lot of oil at Boost but we can not see where this oil come from. The engine do not need oil. Maybe teh Turbo blows it out?

well I will wait to se what others say about the times and we must decide later.
I think anew turbo and a Maf will be the next step.

Well, initially you said 4000-6000rpm :)
4000-6500rpm is a little over 60mph to just about 100mph.

When I did my runs, I shifted into 4th around 5500-6000rpm.

I'm not sure about the intake being full of oil, how are the intercooler pipes?
