Post Buying 944 Turbo, have question

Well I test drove an 86 944 Turbo with about 86k miles on it and the only thing that really disturbed me was that the oil pressure gauge bounced around a bit (maybe +/- 1) at idle, centered around about 3. Is this normal? Also, the owner said the car burns about a quart of oil every 4k miles.

I've heard that the 2 primary tests to get are a compression test and a leak test... Any other quick suggestions before I take the plunge? TIA.

Oil pressure probably a gauge issue...did you notice a difference in sound as the pressure bounced around? (not sure if thats an indicator...but just taking a guess).

At idle when warm oil pressure should be between 2 and 3. When revving at 3 or 4k should be about 4-5.

1 quart in 4 thousand miles is very little usage.

Could be the pressure gauge sending unit. Mine flops around 4 bar at idle, pegs at 5 bar when loaded. Replacement part is about $50-60 and is fairly easy to replace.
