1970 le mans 917 - Doc read this!
Just to tank you for a reply regarding wastgates and to tell you something that you might be interesting.
I noticed on the bottom of your reply was a quote from Steve Mcqueen in the 1970 film 'le Mans'.
2 weeks ago I attenede a regional porsche meeting in the UK (Devon&Cornwall),and helped unload off a trailer the actual Gulf porsche 917 is it? that Steve Mcqueen drove in the film. I helped the owner with another guy push the car onto the grass display area. I had a good chat with him as well- he started the engine up WOW! Ive never heard anything like it in my life- It was Awesome.
people started coming over and crowded around.
I wont tell you the owners name -might be indiscreet- apparently its worth $millions-
The Concurs/event was held at Nigel Mamsells golf club and he wasnt very happy as the car left scorch marks on the grass!! I met him by Im a Schumacher fan.
Anyway if you loved the film the car would have blown your mind- especially when it started up.

Thank you VERY much for sharing that with me. All I can say is WOW, that must have been very exciting. I feel like I lived the moment vicariously through you.
I can only imagine what it must have been like. That's one you'll have to tell the grandchildren about!
