hard pipe kits - will they fit w/ factory airbox?
I just found a nice 1" long crack/cut/gash in the rubber boot between the factory plastic hard-pipe from the turbo, and the intercooler...
(as documented <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=002446" target="_blank">here</a>).
anyhow, i figure, i'd like to go w/ some hard-pipes while i'm at it, but will they fit if I still have my factory airbox/intake/sensor?? I read on SFR's site "NOTE: These pipes will not fit on cars with the airflow meter in the stock location." in bright red letters.... is this the case for ALL of the hard pipe kits, or just Speed Force's?
I've got $3-400 to spend, would I be better off leaving the hard-pipes alone and just getting a stage 1 (or if i stretched my budget, stage 2) intercooler kit from lindsey racing (which includes the hose ends etc).?

The factory pipes are aluminum not plastic. Even if there were aftermarket parts that would fit with the airbox, I don't think they would offer any advantage.
I say, spend the $15 on a new boot and save the rest of the money for tires, suspension, or a guru racing map kit. Even better, spend it on a couple of track days.

I only mentioned that in case you were only interested in horsepower. A maf, map, or afm relocation pipe is pretty much required for an aftermarket intercooler tube kit. I wouldn't bother with the afm relocation and the map is superior to the maf system.

ok, thanks!
will an intercooler kit (theoretically of course) help with reliability, ie, if I don't turn up the boost, and it cools the charge more, won't that be better for the longevity of the motor? i'm trying to balance my mods to be performance but longevity, ie, nothing that will be crazy like running 20lb+

in theory yes, because you will feed colder air into your cars engine. On the other hand this mod will give you some extra HP to run...which might hurt your cars reliability.
What comes to that which is better Guru guys MAP or Autothority the answer is quite simple.I suppose your Autothority is "just" a pair of chips, Guru MAP has totally different apporoach to this subject.I suppose you are familiar with the differencies with AFM/MAF/MAP systems, or what i mean, how do they work?

I spent the evening looking at Autothority vs Guro - looks like guru chips are much more fine-tuned, or rather, more application specific, whereas autothority just threw some more fuel at the problem (ie, more boost = more fuel, who cares about mixture, was their attitude). am i right?
I'm thinking of spending some money on gauges (2-3 a-pillar + 2-3 below head-unit) to keep track of stuff (boost, air-fuel, oil temp, oil pressure, egt, others necessary??)...

I suppose one BIG advantage for GURU RACING is both Danno & Travis OWN 951 themselves. Most other chip manufacturers just make chips according to some calculations.GURU guys use their own products and they have "test bench" around all the time. When you add the high devotion degree to all that, it will give us 951 owners good products (for less money).
OK all this may sound like advertising, but iam living other side of the world and i know Danno & Travis only from Rennlist.

Yes, that impresses me too -- I'll start saving for the Guru chips (might ebay my Autothority ones), in fact, I really like their MAP upgrade too -- could you quickly tell me the dif. between MAP, MAF, AFM etc? I thought I knew, but now it's just swimming around in my head -- is it, that MAP is a hot-wire style like on newer cars, vs MAF which is the trap-door or "vane" style of metering? or is it far more than that?
oh, I decided on the Lindesey Racing Stage 1 intercooler, mainly because, Dave Lindsey is sending me the rubber boots (I figured i'd replace both) with it, whereas my local porsche dealer was going to be 2-3 WEEKS before they could get them... so why not take the opportunity to upgrade and replace the old hardware while I'm at it I still hoping to get some guages to keep an eye on stuff tho...

Woah! I'm not the only one ripping that boot! Get some silicone hose and clamps, and replace that boot with it. On high boost (20+psi) that boot will rip from pressure + heat! I've gone through 4 of them already in the last 2 months!
The first time finding that boost leak was harsh, because it ripped on the underside of the boot. The rip was part of the seam line, which made it hard to see. Once that boot was replaced, the boost hit hard!

Hi Rage,
since you are from Canada tell me one thing consering your speedo. Is it the same style as US ones, miles outer circle km's inner circle or is it the opposite ?
I have US style and it's sometimes difficult to read km's with this small font.I may have an canadian speedo, but i won't take it if it is the same as the US version.I might have also 300 km/h euro speedo, but it's too plain because ther's only km's

Still putting her back toghether. Not too much longer, I hope. Motor goes together soon, then it is the odds and ends after that.
