Post 968 "Turbo S" splitters - advice

Gents,

I now this the 944 section, but I know you guys would be in the best postion for some feedback since there not that many 968 owners who have purchased from AIR or GT racing.

I will be putting an aftermarket "Turbo S" splitter on my car. Both AIR and GT racing sell splitters for the 968 however, I understand there is a difference.

The AIR is a duplicate of the factory part where the GT racing one is not.

Questions:
1) Does any one have photos of the GT racing splitter installed? The WEB page does not show a lot of detail.

2) Can any one offer a recomendation as to the quality of these fibergalss units and vendors - i.e. will they be "wavey" or require a lot of work to have it look like a factory install.

Your advice would be appreciated....Thanks

I would say that both GT Racing and AIR make fiberglass parts as best as they can be made, which is not always a simple bolt on job.

The GT Racing splitter is a smaller piece which does the job of a splitter. The AIR piece is larger and acts as an under car air dam also. Since most race cars I have seen have this, I can only assume that this is better. I do not have a wind tunnel so I have no idea why. Of course this also assumes that you no longer have the black plastic tray under your car.

Or you could do like I did. Some thin plywood with fiberglass resin and some aluminum strips for reinforcement. A hell of alot cheaper...

I have the AIR splitter on my car, love how it looks, but it is a pain to install.

On a stock ride height car you have 4 inches ground clearance with the AIR installed, so you have to pay close attention when parking, entering uneven driveways and the smallest vermin had better be able to move or else.

David,

Can you explain in further detail about the "pain", what mods you had to accomplish, etc. I looked at AIR today and I'm considering the splitter. How much was it?

I paid $280 for the splitter.

The pain is you have to mark and drill holes to match your factory mounts, and as 951 racer said the AIR is a under tray also, so you have two sets of holes to drill one for the screws and one under that for a screwdriver to go thru to get to the screws, it just takes some time to align everthing.

End result, the splitter looks great.

Let me add one other company www.alanticmotionracing.com Tom Egan is one of the owners and he was my DE instructor in Talledga last Sept. his V8 944 had there splitter and adj rear wing installed and they looked great!
They have ads in the Sept and Oct. Panorama.

David,
Does the splitter, attach to the leading edge of the wheel well, around the brake duct area, as the factory peice does..?
You'll save me a call, as this was my only reservation..
Thanks

951and944S,

If I understand what you are asking, then yes the splitter follows the leading edge from front of wheel well to front of wheel well and the under tray goes almost straight across under the car from those points.

Hope this helps

David, thanks, that's what I meant. with the stock part removed you have a couple screws that should attach to the leading edge of the lower whell weel.

Leading edge...?
Do you fly by any chance..?
Work at a wind tunnel..?
LOL

You can check out my 944T it has a GT Racing splitter. http://pages.prodigy.net/pjbloom1
Most of the photos are in the "photo album section".
Just something to consider, although I really liked the looks of the splitter, if your car is lowered as mine is, it really isn't very practical for the street (IMHO) as the splitter protrudes quite a bit.
It would scrape when I would back out of my level drive.

Paul B.
