Post radiator drain plug.

God damn it.
I finally finish putting the car back together, and I'm putting the radiator drain plug back in and it just snaps.

I was so excited to take her for a drive.

Anyone in the SF bay area have a spare?

I did this twice, it was embarassing. The things snap easily. I ordered from 944online. Make sue you get the blue one, the black one will not fit. They sent me the black one and I ended up getting a blue from a local independent Porsche mechanic. 944online sent me the blue one later so I have it as a backup.

It's the O-ring that seals on those plugs, so you don't need a whole lot of pressure on the bolt. I guess it's plastic so you don't damage the radiator by over-tightening. In a pinch, I've cut down a 10x1.5mm bolt and used that with some sealant to hold.

Is it a problem that a portion of the old plug is now in the radiator?

Did you get the plug yet? There is one sitting in my old radiator in the garage.

wait, the old one broke OFF inside there? that could be rather bad - i doubt your turbo or thermostat or engine's water passages like plastic chunks much...... as much of a bitch as it would be, i'd take off the radiator and flush it / drain it / shake it til that piece was recovered.

"the old one broke OFF inside there? that could be rather bad"

That's OK, you can fish it out easily by using a screw-extractor. It's just a hollow plastic bolt, so it doesn't take much force to remove.

I couldn't get it out.
I took dmoffit's advice and just took the radiator out, and shook it out.

Finnaly done and the cars running again.
Thanks 951sickness for the plug!
