Question Strange boost problem

I have had the car about a week now and everything is running fine i just had a question concerning a werid boost problem.I adjusted the lindsey boost enhancer all the way in and drove the car it was really fast but in 3rd gear the car all of a sudden shut off and i pulled over checked everything and restarted the car...drove home and everything was okay.I unscrewed the boost enhancer all the way in the opposite direction and the car was really slow but didnt suddenly cut off.Now a few days later i am running about half of what the car was when it cut but, for some reason whenever i drive the car for a extended period of time the boost shuts off for a split second and then immediately comes right back on and the car is fine.It happens regardless of gear or throttle. The car seems okay whenever it happens but i dont understand why?? Is this a safety boost cut off or something?? Why does it happen even when i am doing 70mph in 5th gear.It only happens for a split second then boost comes right back on no problem.Did i do something wrong??? is this because i played around with the boost enhancer??? Is my car okay??

Well, my lbe gives about 18 psi screwed all the way in. Yours will do the same assuming your turbo and wastegate are up to it. If you car has stock chips, they are only fueling for .75 boost - so yes, you are being shut off.
When you screw it all the way in, you are running too rich, so that is why it is slow.
If your car is stock, set the lbe with about 6-7 red threads showing after the locknut - this will get you by until you get the real boost guage that you need to buy today.

Well, not to scare you or anything. But I removed my LBE and tested it under pressure. All the way tightened I consistently got 27 psi. If you have stock chips, the computer will definitely cut fuel LONG before you get to this pressure. Get a good boost gauge SOON, so you can see exactly what pressures you are hitting. And if you want to run higher boost without the cut-out, get yourself some chips. I have no idea which chips you should go with though ... *COUGH, COUGH, GURU, COUGH*

"okay cool....what kind of guru setups do they have? how much do they cost?"

All the info is available on our website. Check out the "Testimonials" section and feel free to contact any of our customers for their impressions. Those were the early ones and later ones have posted here; search for "GURU chips".

"and what kind of gains should i expect from the chips"

We're seeing about a 55hp increase over stock with our chip kit (183rwhp -> 238rwhp): Dyno Numbers for GURU Chip set . Had two different cars pull the same 235-238rwhp number with just our chip kit over stock configuration, so I'm confident that's a valid number. Also TurboS users are getting somewhere in the range of 260-270rwhp.

I am currently getting 215rwhp or so with ape stage II chips and 12-14psi boost(really not much HP or feeling differences in that range). I am worried about the A/F swings with the APE chips so I have turned down to 12psi max ... also it doesn't feel much different at 14psi.
So switching to GURU should net me 20+HP min and A/F below 12.5/13 at high rpms with my current setup?
A/F is the main concern with head gasket failure, right? Is the stock gasket good for 15psi if the A/F is around 12.5 with your chips? I hate to turn it up even with a new chip if I'm going to be another 944 guy that blew my head gasket in a few weeks.

"so I have turned down to 12psi max ... also it doesn't feel much different at 14psi."

That's because the APE chips are much too rich in the full-throttle/mid-range. Going from 10.0:1 to 9.0:1 won't change much, it'll be sluggish either way.

"So switching to GURU should net me 20+HP min and A/F below 12.5/13 at high rpms with my current setup?

Yes...

"A/F is the main concern with head gasket failure, right? Is the stock gasket good for 15psi if the A/F is around 12.5 with your chips?"

Yes. We've got people running 18psi with K27 turbos getting perfectly flat air-fuel curves (not recommended without larger injectors).

"I hate to turn it up even with a new chip if I'm going to be another 944 guy that blew my head gasket in a few weeks."

As long as you haven't had any knocking/detonation with your existing configuration, you should be fine. It's using the APE chips above 15psi with manual boost-controllers that creates more high-end flow than those chips were designed for that causes problems.
