Looking For a Particular 951

Hey everybody,
I suppose I should start my request with some background. I am almost 19 now but my love of the 951 began in mid-1998. My Uncle, the only car guy in my family, showed up to my house in a red 951. As my uncle was the only car guy in the family, family gatherings were spent (from age 3 on) talking cars, especially the 951 since he got it. Then comes the summer of 2010, the car was awaiting a new tire so I could learn to drive manual and we could try to autocross the car by Christmas or so... Arrangements are made and the plan was for me to learn to drive stick the first Saturday of July, the 3rd (12 days before my 18th). However, on June 26 2010, my 47 year old on-and-off semi-pro cyclist Uncle suddenly dies of a heart attack on a normal saturday ride. So, needless to say, I was shocked. Now, the car in question. It was an '87 Guards Red 951 (not sure on the interior color because it always had sheepskin seat covers...). The car had D90's with the center caps painted red. As the former car of late Brumos co-owner Bob Snodgrass, it had 2 small stripes on the front drivers corner of the hood one white, one brumos blue. As an 18 year old my financials were not prepared to purchase the car, which needed a lot of minor work done. Unfortunately the car was sold just prior to my being able to get the money together. I now have no clue where this car is and was hoping for any help as far as finding where it went. As you can well imagine this car has a great deal of sentimental value and I would like to find it, even if I can't buy it... I have the vin number (WP0AA2952HN152520) if that makes a difference. Any help as far as sightings of the car or how to best track it down would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Guys!
-Spence

Sorry to hear of your uncle's passing. What part of the country was the car sold?

ham sammich 03-07-2011 09:42 PM

Jacksonville, Florida. And thank you very much.

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. A well written query, if I may say so -- I sure hope you find the car you're looking for.

Thanks... I thought that without the background that perhaps it really lacks meaning, and maybe if the current owner reads it than just maybe they will get in touch with me...

I would run a carfax on the VIN and see where it was last registered.

ham sammich 03-07-2011 10:02 PM

Does anyone have a carfax account that they could use to check for me? If not, I will do it myself but free is always a help...

I wonder if you could just go to your local registries and inquire about your VIN#. They may have it on the system and might let you know what city it's located in.

Email me... but not for a carfax report... wink wink Rock944t@yahoo.com

Where ever this car is, It has not been registered recently. There is nothing on the carfax report after 2001.

It could have met its demise and been parted out.

he said he his uncle had the car in 2010. find out if there is a bill of sale (from family member or consignment). good luck.
you could also create a tribute car for him.

ham sammich 03-08-2011 07:38 PM

Yeah, it was only driven about 200 miles or so a year since 01 but it was definitely registered in 08 so I haven't the slightest clue! And if it has been parted (which I pray it hasn't) that would be crushing but, I will make a tribute if possible... I've got an idea but let me get back to y'all, and thanks again for the help!

Hey Spence, great story, I hope you find the car. Good luck!! and let us know how the search goes.

ham sammich 03-08-2011 11:45 PM

Will do everybody, I'm talking to a back channel source who is trying to get me in touch with the current owner, I'll let you know what I hear as soon as possible (though it could be a few days). Hopefully things will work out, if not then I will buy that car when I get another chance!
