Motons Arrived
After a long wait I just revceived a phone call telling me that my Motons are here. I'll be heading over to the dealer Satuday AM to pick them up. Now all I have to do is find the time to take off the cup car stuff and install the new setup.
Interesting spring requirements on these. 8" long in front and 4", not a typo, in the rear. My choice of 2.5 or 2.25 ID as hardware for both was included. Glad I didn't throw out all those old RSA springs.

They will be up for sale after I get the new stuff on. Hopefully soon.

Alan's referring to Morton's- as in Morton Dampers (shocks/struts). I wondered what the hell it was too- that's the only reason I checked this one- b/c I had no idea what Moton's were Then it became more obvious- only b/c I've heard of them before though- I assume many haven't- most are only aware of koni & Bilstein probably, as they're by far the most popular....

Robby,
No 'r'just Moton. Nice double adjustable shocks and struts.

REALLY!? I feel stupid now- I thought you just mistyped the title- I just re-read your post though, and you spelled it the same way each time- I guess that should have told me something- I just always thought there was an "R" in there- I think I was getting them confused w/Morris actually...

$800 for shocks, struts and springs plus shipping. Probably about $30.

Alan,
pardon my ignorance, but by "cup car" I am assuming your suspension is the bilstein coilovers from the turbo cup cars. If so, were you running the rears as helpers to the torsion bars? If so, did you have to reindex the bars to get a decent ride height? Do you know if there are appropriate springs availible to do away with the torsion bars altogether with the cup car set-up? At or about 80000 pennies I'm still interested.

Yes they are the Bilstein coil overs from the 944 turbo cup.
The bars were reindexed and the ride height is down on my car.
You could get heavier springs and do away with the torsion bars. In my case even with the new Motons I'm leaving the torsion bars in the car.
After talking with Dave Schardt of the Wheel Source and John Wright of Schumacher Racing they don't see a problem leaving the bars in the car.
John has an E car running 700 lb springs in the front and 500 lb springs in the rear with 31 mm torsion bars. That's read STIFF.
My plan is to start with 500 lb in the front and 350 lb in the rear. That way I can continue to build my obsolete parts bin in the garage

Anyone who wants to see some good pictures of remote Motons - get the U.K. magazine 911 & Porsche world, issue # 100 - good article on a couple of 956's. Look on page 71, but hold it up to a mirror because those guys print on the wrong side of the paper.

"John has an E car running 700 lb springs in the front and 500 lb springs in the rear with 31 mm torsion bars. That's read STIFF."
IMHO that seem WAY oversprung in the rear.
Wheel Rates:
FRONT: ~650
REAR: ~663
Result= Oversteer
"My plan is to start with 500 lb in the front and 350 lb in the rear. That way I can continue to build my obsolete parts bin in the garage "
Karl @ Racers Edge was running somewhere around 50 -60% of the front wheel rate at the rear. I went to +75% and like it. Previous,I was running ~equal wheel rates fr/rear and the car was (951 race car)very tail happy (oversteer)!
Suspension set up is personal but again, IMHO 650/663 will result in an oversteer condition that even the adjustibility of MOTONs can't cure.
