Default Hood crest opinions

My car is in the final stages of getting fixed and I've decided to pony up and get the whole thing re-painted, should be shiny!

Now, to the all important hood crest question. The number of choices is pretty comical as are the price ranges so I would appreciate any opinions/experience/advice. Yes, the future of the free world does indeed rest on this decision, so please choose carefully...

What say ye?

1) OEM Pre-96 Crest - ~$75

2) Aftermarket Pre-96 Crest ~$40

3) OEM 993 Crest w/black PORSCHE - ~$50

4) OEM 996/986 Crest w/black PORSCHE - ~$60

5) Keep my original crest with 23 years worth of hard earned patina

glad to hear your car is coming back together!

BTW, I bought Zim's (option #2) aftermarket crest for mine..looks great.

Your #5 option is perfect as a desk ornament!

I don't like the gold "Porsche" script at the top, so I would have to say the OEM 993 crest w/ Black script. I'm also a fan of OEM

Most obvious difference is the 'PORSCHE' across the top is gold in the top two and black in the bottom two. Apparently the 996 (and maybe the 993?) crest is flatter/smoother? Tough to tell that in the pics, that's why I'm hoping someone has put an eyeball on the various iterations.

Faced that decision myself, agonized with the decision for weeks, wrestled with the consequences every night. Even ordered the shiny bit of **** not knowing the outcome. When the moment arrived, it was like lighting from the sky. Truth, Honor, and the American Way prevailed...I used the old one and got my money back.

Both my cars bear brand new shiney OEM correct badges, and I often find myself musing at them for inspiration... Stick with what was there, or make a radical departure (black chrome anyone??)

The original was attached by hand by a West German worker in the 80s, I'd keep it.

Mine was nasty and faded but my new one, the seal won't fit right. I've fiddled with it for an hour and still can't get it right.

Point well taken but it will have to be removed to paint the header panel so regardless of what I replace it with it will be attached by hand by a Colorado worker in the 10's.

Glad to see you back in 'er and back adder! Have you considered the newest, 'lowest weight' badge from the gt2 RS? This could be the answer to the free world! Other than that, I'd go with the newer one with black on it.

OEM 993 part IMHO.
What colour is your car?

I have seen people over here in the UK using the all Silver badge that features on the engine block of a 928 as their hood crest. On a silver or black car it looks good.
