Default 951 from Spain.

Hi, glad to be in!

Ill introduce myself, and my ´87 951. Its a stock 220hp, targa with only the M474 suspension as extras. Im from Spain by the way

A friend bought it for spares, but felt guilty of dismantling it, and now its mine. It was a mess; clutch gone, small fire from a petrol leak......not the best of starts. Lots of work, but slowly getting there. Im new in the Porsche world, but had a few VW "cousins", still own a mk1 golf with a 20v turbo engine, I like to mess arround.

Here is the beauty!

By now its got a new clutch, timing belt kit and engine mounts, so the dirty work is over.

Got a loom on ebay as the original got burnt:

Newish sensors going in

Injectors with new seals

The ancillary pipes and stuff were a nightmare, all in boxes and not a clue where the went. I will delete the ventury sistem sometime, read its useless.

Installed the exhaust

And with a vacuum leak from somewhere I had a quick dash arround. Not much, but at least I know it works.

End of chapter 1

Got new water hoses, distributor, cables, filters, LR boost enhancer, vacuum hose.......lots of ****. Ill continue another day

Greetings from Spain

Actually our cars are not known as Targas but with the sunroof panel removed I guess you have a similar feeling.
You will have some fun with the car and there are many resourceful people in here that can give you good advice. Use the Search function too as there will be many years of threads that are interesting and helpful if you're looking up some topic or other.

There was some threads and links to another guy in Spain recently who has a pretty modified car. He was racing against GT3s etc and winning.

Good luck, looks like a decent car. Glad to see you saving it, instead of parting.

First, a belated happy patron Saint's day to you for yesterday. Second, 944 cars with sunroofs are in fact described as 'Targas' in classified ads in mobile.de and autoscout24.de here in Europe all the time.

Fuel fires in these cars can get quite bad with LOTS of damage. Glad to see yours was a small one.

Looks like you are replacing the fuel lines, another source of leaks is the fuel rail. It is thin wall and braised together, after several R&R they can get twisted and develop hairline cracks, There are nice aftermarket units are out there with four point mounts that are very sturdy

Still a bit mesy, but for the moment staying as it is.

The foglight that was missing is on its way. And Falken 452´s ordered, so not far to go!

I would put some heat shields over the fuel lines. The headers are right below the lines and they can get cooked.

The car dident idle, so I changed the ISV, but kept with the same problem. The ISV was fully open, so the DMA, a sensor or the loom is damaged. Its not too bad without, just on cold you have to keep a bit of juice with your right foot

Anyway, it finished up like this. It runs, so not too bothered with the finnesse at the moment.

Bought an upholstery kit on ebay. The results speek for themselves.........

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the upholstery kit? and where did you get it from on ebay? Thanks.

I paid 350 in Linnen colour, black is cheaper for example.

Search for "944 upholstery" or "porsche upholstery" and you will find them for sure. They have them for almost all porsche seats, if they dont have them listed ask for the ones you need.

I got them from the seller "aoenterpreses", but there are more, and Im sure they come from the same german supplier.
