I was envisioning the same thing to replace my airbag dash with cracks wider then the Grand Canyon. I have spare non-air bag dash that is in slightly better condition then mine, but still cracked. I am going to get started on this project! Nice work!!

BTW: Did they have a darker shade of that material? Either way it looks great.

Porsche Doc--I would agree, the center console would look good in black as well as the top1/4 of the door pannels. I think I will wait a year to see if my work and the 3m adhesive is up to this task. I just don't this to fail horribly and then I forced to recovering half the interior in my car again!!

Chris white (EMPEROR) -If I had the fiberglass dash already you bet your bippy I would have used it. For a real track car I would have probably bought one as well as removed a lot more than just the air bags for weight!! I will post some more close up pics tomarrow.

V2 Rocket- hey next time I am out in CA............

MM951- The color is actually a true black, my flash and the low VGA setting on my camera needed to down load pictures washes it out. In person it is perfectly black.

One thing you can count on, is if you followed the directions on the 3m can to a T, that will NOT pull loose.

Silver Rose looks very nice !

My dash needs work, the thought has crossed my mind about changing to a non airbag dash, but what would an insurance company say about that if you have a claim ? I am afraid it be used as a reason to DENY any claim ????

Lol, while redoing my subbasement walls and floor today, I found a big roll of suede I bought a few years ago to do door panels. Coincidence? I think not.

Ya know that's been discussed, and I think justifiably so. We need to find out what would actually happen in that instance. I have the same concerns. I have a PERFECT black over linen 86 dash waiting to go in, but I have the same reservations.

MY GOD, that looks nice!!

All black .... I'm nursing a semi

Where do you buy bulk Alcantara? I've looked online for months, and can't find anyone who sells auto upholstery grade Alcantara..... just the real thin "ultra suede" ****.

Silver Rose, I saw that same fabric at Joanne's (sp?). I wanted to buy some, but worries of the sun and 120 degree outdoor heat (possibly 150-160 on a black dash) made me skip it. Keep us posted on how the sun treats your dash.

It looks fantastic as well.

Thank you for the compliments guys. Silver Rose you did an amazing job on yours!! I didn't have the nerve to do it myself. One really nice advantage to this dash is that there is no glare like the stock vinyl/leather.

As I understand it, these guys are the only importers of Alcantara:

This guy sells kits or will do it for you:

Yes -m73m95- I am worried about the heat, glue, long termness of my dash. Hence my resevation of coveting the rest of my car to said cheep interiro. I am sure the stuff you found Joanns is the same as I have used,. It is then, but hey then is light!!!!!

DVC-Awsome car regardless!!! I am glad to see the door pannels done, they look awsome. Thanks for the links. Classic 9 provided my defrost grill (very nice), but I had no sorce for Alcatnara in bulk. I may need that link in the future!!!!!!

To the rest of you worried about removeing the air bags and legality vs insurance co's. I understand the worries. All I can say is I'll see you at the track!!!!!

I purchased 2 yards and ran out of just the amount to cover the glove box.
If I was ordering Alcantera I would order 3 yards knowing I would have enough with room to spare!!

Or about $400 for the whole do it yourself kit from Rob Budd, which is not bad at all
