how to keep animals from eating my wires

I have a lot of stray cats in my neighborhood and it seems one ate my O2 sensor wire. Is there something I can spray on the new wire to keep the cats from eating it? TIA

Pee on it?

Seriously, that sucks man.

I have no idea. Start shooting them and leave the corpse
behind as a warning to others....

^^Close

Spray your car down in wolf pee. No animal will come near your car, except for a horny female wolf :).

Honestly, I don't know of anything "reasonable" to do about this problem. I've never seen a cat chew on wires anyway. I would bet you have mice, and the cat goes up in your car looking for the mice. Not your wires.

Try this:http://www.havahart.com/store/animal-repellents/5400

What he said... get some mouse bait/poison packets and spread them around the engine compartment.

Thanks for the replies. Definitely no mice. I'm under my car almost everyday and know this for certain. The cats lay under the engine for the heat and protection from the wind, which is the worst part of the cold here in Blacksburg. I guess they got bored while they were warming up under my car.

I'm gonna try the stuff on the havahart site. I was thinking of putting GL5 on them, that's about the stinkiest stuff in the shop, but some people like that smell and I don't want to attract any more cats to eat my wires.

I have used Bounce fab ric sofetner sheets for mice. Put them on the floor by the garage or other doors and under the car. For some reason mice hate them. As for cats, get a Rotty and put him in the garage and only feed him when he eats a cat.

I like the smell of gear oil :) .... but not copper.

I still have never heard of a cat eating wires.... not that I know everything. Just seems strange to me.

I didn't witness a cat eating the wires. I just noticed that my wire had been chewed off and stray cats are always under my car(my car is parked outside in an apartment parking lot). I don't know much about cats and the wires could have been sabotaged in some other way, but eaten by cats seems most likely to me.

You could also try a few doses of tobasco sauce.

Jfrahm 01-09-2010 02:56 AM

Around here it's usually rabbits eating the wiring, or mice.

I think you guys are all smoking funny stuff. Cats don't eat wires. They may bite the wires but not chew on them. By the way last time I checked that O2 sensor wiring is far away from where a cat can reach to chew.
Maybe you got mice around and the cats are by your car waiting for them.

tabasco's a bit mild get some of that super duper chilli sauce or powder with the skull and cross bones on it . be nice if you could get a few live wires in there with single phase ... that'll lern em
