Betting the TO bearing went out. So pushing the clutch in isn't disengaging the pressure plate from the clutch. The fact that he can put it into gear when the engine is off, would verify this. Maybe not the TO bearing. Could be the pressure plate itself. But he did say the clutch pedal was vibrating. Thus my assumption.

That car is ROUGH! Would definitely be a money pit.
Hate to say it but it would probably be much more worthwhile as a parts car...otherwise you'll be putting in way more money than it would be to buy an already good example.

To me... Looks like a good candidate for a track car. If you wanted, you could fix those issues, and get a good paint job, then you'd be in pretty good shape. Probably have a good 951 for about 5k. Optimistically.

Might add that due to the issues, his asking price may be negotiable. Sure it's pretty cheap. But considering that it doesn't run right, needs body work, and at least a new driver's seat... You see what I'm getting at.

$1500 max.

It'll take $4k (or more) to get it decent. These can swallow up money at a ferocious rate.

Clutch job, had the freaking engine out and most likely did not replace the Throw out bearing!!! What a 12- 18 hour job. $1800- 2500?
Must have just said "that's it!"

If it's not your only car I'd say go for it! But then I have a yard full of ... projects. But my Turbo S is a runner but not a daily driver and it does not like being worked on in a hurry.

Good luck.

Looks like a nice project, you can probably get it going fairly cheap, then fix all the little odds and ends over time.

I know why you think this (and it can be true) but to make a reliable track car it takes $$$$ My car has pretty much everything on it new in the past 5 years yet I still find TONS of things that constantly need replacing to keep in A1 condition. On the track things deffinitely wear out faster and you also find out where the weaknesses are faster
