The weakest part of the 944 engine is the owner...

Show me a 1000whp 20VT engine that cost $10k. Sure Javad can say he can build a 1000whp motor for $10-15k but he HASN'T DONE IT YET!

i know... only 700whp so far.

so for $10k you get a 700whp audi i5, what do you get for $10k for a chevy ls1 or a porsche?

All this talk of this engine and that .. everything seems so easy.

One thing to remember is that just b/c a car makes a ton of power it may not be nearly as reliable as a larger engine. My car makes pretty good power, however, I would never try to say it would be the same as an LS1 or as reliable as a slightly modded LS1 making the same power.

Also the TQ curves are vastly different, giving a completely different feel.

Well - if you simply want a 1000hp 4cylinder, then you would be crazy not to go with the 4G63.

I could add it up for under 10k, but really who cares?

+1

The 4G63 beat out 034/Javad's 20VT in the Castrol Engine Shootout.
There's a picture of a 4G63 in the rear of a 911 that's pretty funny

here's the real list... note we are talking about the engine, not the drivetrain, clutch, wheels, etc.

-2309cc, 83mm bore, stock 86.4mm stroke 7A crank and block (bored to 83mm from 82.5mm)

-Port matched, flowed 7A head, 230cft at .4" lift, 28" water (stock was 188cfm). Machined for RS2 water manifold.

-O-ringed block, .005" proud, .065" 034Motorsport annealed copper head gasket with MLS, rubber coated sealing layers.

-83mm JE pistons, 144mm 034Motorsport rods, ARP 2000 rod bolts, ARP headstuds and crank bearing studs. 8.3:1 CR

-CAT Cams 272/264 cams with 11.2mm lift, 112d lobe center (adjustable). 415whp, currently running 7A cams, 395whp baseline)

-Custom 034EFI long runner header, T3 exh. flange, all 304 stainless including flanges, full 3" downpipe and exhaust system. Wastegate dump open to atmosphere. - Now running Production Piece

-Selection of turbos, 034EFI HIGH OUTPUT T3/T4E (capable of 550HP or 55Lbs per minute of flow, currently running 034EFI T3/T61 Hybrid. Future plans to run a Garrett GT35 or 40R. - Now runniing GT40R, future plans for GT42RS (current turbo)

-3B Intake manifold and throttle body - 034EFI High Output Intake Manifold with AAN Throttle Body current.

-Custom 034Motorsport/SPEC Sintered Iron Clutch with dual spring fingers, over 3000lbs clamping force.

-034EFI Stage IIc EFI system with direct fire (coil per cyl) ignition, sequential fuel injection, 75LB injectors

- 034EFI Garrett GT42Rs Turbo, 4"-3.5" downpipe, -10AN fuel feed line, dual 044 Motorsport Fuel pumps(January 2007). (these items were added for the 4th phase of the build)

$25k would probably include the labor, which we arent including the "costs"...

so far the audi i5 is the cheapest HP for the dollar ive seen around...

I know, I based everything off that "real list" (which is actually somewhat outdated/wrong for the 700whp runs; and it is only a list of major parts, it doesn't list every single part) and what you could get from 034.

My list doesn't account for the custom cams or fuel system and the clutch was an estimate (and most likely a generous one) along with other misc. things.

If you really want to know more about the motor then read here: http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/view...highlight=80tq
It is kept much more up to date than his website.

If you really want to know how to build a 944/Audi/whatever engine and know what the weaknesses are then you need to CALL a builder (034 for Audi, Chris White or Dave at CEP for 944, etc) if you want real info...not just stuff you read on the internet.

A lot of $$$, haha
Most people don't even know everything that was done to that engine, he kept a lot secret with the exception of a few people.
