One is with 8 holes and strange 8 hole spacer/holder and one is with regular 4 holes.

How does s2 balancer (The right one with 8 holes) bolts on engine correctly? Cant seem to find a picture of mounted balancer...

You need the S2 balance belt gear too....or you could just use 4 bolts - it would be fine.

Here's an article I wrote for Vintage Motorsport magazine on harmonic dampers. It might add something to this thread.

I have only seen the 4-bolt version on the 944S.
The 8-bolt I've seen on 944S2.

Thanks Richard. So where you touch on the SFI rated dampers what do you equate to 'extremely high rpms'? Assuming the ATI product sits in this range.

I just posted reference pics to 944 turbo FB page. This site refuses to fix the app for photo uploads or I would post it here.

An damper that uses the SFI label must meet the following conditions.

The SFI spec 18.1 stipulates minimum mechanical properties for the steel used in the construction of the damper, the requirement that the outer inertia ring is retained and where the damper is subjected to spin test requirements of 12,500 rpm for one hour.

The shop has got my ’91 944-S2 for belts and water pump, when they pulled the crank accessory drive damper, pointed out that the rubber between the 2 halves of the pulley is showing its age, and appears to be pretty close to letting go.

Is there a suitable replacement for the 3.0L M44 inline 4? Seems that Porsche no longer has an OEM replacement for sale.

Any hints, pointers, or suggestions, greatly appreciated.

Yes, I just bought 2 from Pete at RS Barn. Much better design and rebuildable. The S2 balancer was not created for a 3.0L, from what I have read.
