Where did you get the gear set from?

They were custom made I don't know if anyone does them as set for the 944 series. Maybe possible in standard ratio's but I even changed all of that also.

they are much eaiser to make .. they should be cheaper .
i would like to have taller strait cuts made for first and second gear not the bigger gears as it would suck when cruising

I've thought of having some made via wire EDM... Don't know how successful they'd be.

Tell us more, Costas.

just curious, why?

the helicals will probably last longer as they have more surface area for torque to be applied to.

they sound awesome though but even that gets old after a while of 3000rpm highway WHIRRRRRRRRR

Straight cut gears should be stronger, simply due to the much thicker 'teeth' compared to helical gears.

Well it had all started years ago when I was going threw tranny's (my driving or more power or both). My father being a Class A mechanist gave me an idea to do this and so far the tranny has out lasted one car and is in another one now . I had him make me custom hardened gear straight cut shot peened and and to wrap things up a Quife diff because becomes the weak point after the gears. All the ratio's are shorter so I can be in my power band always outside of of 1st. It is center to do the most damage around 50-120mph( most used speeds on track). At my increase readline(8300rpm) my top speed is only (due to gearing) 161mph.

The cost to do it now I would not know because my father has passed a few years back .I can check around at a few of my friend that do this line of work as my father did to see if they can emulate my gearbox and how much.

But if you are not putting serious power down I don't see the need if all you want is the sound of it if that is what you want it's an expensive sound to purchase ...lol

The reason to do it is because the gear box efficiency will go up quite a bit. The teeth of elical gears rub against each other while they turn, causing a lot of extra friction. This will yield a higher net power at the wheels.

And, the ratios can be customized to match the car their in... not to mention the longevity of the gears...

I found a shop that has an offering for the 6speed box, but not one "off the shelf" for the 5 speed, even though the shop I found says they offer them for the 5 speed... they only list cost and pics of the 6 speed...

don't ask the cost, the conversion factor kills us in the US, was approaching 16K...

BUT I do have Pro-E and know many a machinist....

that thing must be insanely quick to be short enough geared to hit 160mph at over 8k
