Default renovate 2,5l or take the leap to 3.0l?

My engine needs to be renovated this winter and my block is in bad shape so i will need a new block anyway so i´m thinking if i should take the leap to 3.0l? i´m looking for 400+hp

Do i need other pistons than the s2 ones?

Does someone have pictures of how to modify the water passage on the turbo head to fit the s2 block?

For my 3L build, I chose wossner (using an S2 block), but there are others: Mahle (if you can get a set), JE, etc...I don't know if the S2 pistions are up to the task of a turbo application.

Talk to a few of the engine builders offline to get some better info. Also I'm sure it's been discussed in prior threads if you try the search function.

Another option is the 2.8l either stroked or bored, either of which will give you 400+ easily, in the turbo edition. If the S pistons are from an NA engine then they will need to be replaced (compression ratio issues). Either way the mods will be fairly expensive. What is your budget? IS it for street or track. If you are going for the additional HP you will need a different clutch to be able to handle the additional torque.

my $0.02

You want to use the block and crank but not the pistons or rods.So you wil have to get aftermarket rods and pistons

944 turbo rods ,968 pistons and e 85 will get you 400+ hp and hang together
as long as you don't get greedy with the boost and revs get all the good bolt on stuff first as it is much of it is good for either set up

I should market a new product for the folks that want to go to 3.0 engines - a special wax so when they get to the slippery slope of "while you are in there" they will get the budget to warp speed quickly!!!

Honest answer?! - you can make a lot of power (quite enough for most street applications) with a properly built 2.5. The cost to go to a 3.0 adds up quick. If you really want the combination of extra power and something that others don't have you can step up to the 3.0 world.

Build the 3 liter. You'll be able to loaf around at 400hp on pump gas.

That sounds good Chris. I´ll think i order som wax then

I know that 2,5l can support 400+ and that 3,0l is more expensive

What i have already:
* Bosch HFM5 Maf
* Chip for E85
* 120lbs injectors
* Special hybrid k26/k27
* Stage 3 hybrid clutch
* Light ported head
* Bosch 044 fuel pump.

With around 1.2bar i should be near 400hp in the engine but i want more

If my block was in good shape i´d be happy just rebuilt it but it´s not and it´s just as difficult to find a 2,5l block than a 3,0l block here in sweden

Does someone have pictures of the modification of the turbo head to fit the 3,0l block?

I agree whole heartedly with Chris's statement:

I've blown thru my initial budget considerably...

Building a 3.0 is not cheap, but if you don't build one now you will be left wondering how much better than a 2.5 it would have been
