Crosspost: New 951 Sport!!
Combining Ice Skating and Shuffleboard with a dash of Ballroom twirl at the end.

Slicks had been used for about 10 laps since new. Nice.....They were all straight when we put them on that cold morning. Didn't last that way for too long.
Think there might have been a clue even before I made it onto the actual track LOL First few laps are very slow and cautious. These things were impossible to have any faith in just gripwise, then this happened.

uhh I suppose it's a real hassle to setup slicks with correct wheel alignment and get the correct heat in them.
I guess you're going to back to r-spec tires!

Hey, when I pull out of the pits and nearly go off the road before reaching the actual track, now that's confidence inspiring. hehe.
Actually for our events down here it looks like we'll go to a Hoosier type tyre which is somewhere between a full slick and R spec. The slicks just take too long to get to heat for a Supersprint....unless you can afford Michy Qualifiers each event.

too long to get the heat .??......oh my ...... what a surprise ...??? it's its a shame you cant just go for 10" wide slicks ... hey since they just don't look many enough and don't mach your hand bag ..
hey what offset are those enkies any way ?

Well give us at least 2-3 laps to get them warm, especially on a cold track surface. We don't have enough time for that which is a bit of a shame really. Maybe I need 4 really large pre-heated handbags to act as tyre warmers!
Enkeis are 18x10 et 60 all round.

Partrick you did very well to save it there mate ... I was expecting a large bang to follow!!! You seamed to loose it on the rumble strips which hooked you up.
Are these the cheap slicks you were telling me about?
The tyre that has deformed - Was that one fitted to the "near-side rear"? what cold/ambient tyre pressures were you running?

They are Falken tyres. Not sure of the full details as in 'F' etc. What is an 'F' tyre anyway Hans? 'Failed' I'm guessing. These were not on any spacers. They were sold to me as brand new however they had a strange appearance. My naivety assumed that they'd be ok once run in. They were cheap or compared to other makes. I hope to have more of an explanation next week. I'm sure you're right in that one of the belts has let go. I had driven on these once before at that track for about 5 laps to heat cycle them in and once at another track for about the same amount of laps before the rain set in. So they were almost brand new.
As for the spin itself, there is a small bit of concrete on the RHS that I always drive over. I had just downshifted and braked and that's when it just snapped without warning. I've never had anything like that nor has that part of the track been dicey before.
Mark it was the rear RHS tyre and cold temps were 28psi. There's not actually a rumble strip there, but there's an angled kerb but I don't actually hit that part.
Dillon, you're so right. I was VERY lucky. I think it was my initial reaction on the wheel in turning left that snapped the car back that way and avoided the wall. I'd love to say that was what I meant to do but I can only say that I was a passenger.

Hans I think refers "'F' tyre" as meaning front tyre.
I have seen this before on rear tyres when they deform and it's normally down to wrong tyre pressure. When the tyre gets hot the air inside expands significantly meaning that you wear the inner section of the tyre more but when cornering the directional force is shifter to the inner edge hence the marbles you see looking like a twirl on the other wheel which I guess is your off side rear?
You were running on a clockwise circuit hence why I ask if it was you near side rear tyre where most of the force is exerted as both front work normally just has hard.
Are you running air inside?
As Hans points out it looks like the steel rings have broken or delaminated from the rubber which I’d guess to be the case.
Either which way at least you and your car live to see another track day which is most important mate
