I always felt that Mg wheels get a bad rap from wheel failures on some Mg wheels made for racing in the 1930 - 50s. Porsche speced a Mg alloy for these Turbo Cup wheels to include Al, Mn and Zn. No doubt that Mg has some aging qualities that resemble my hands, but I've never been able to find any real failure data on modern Mg alloy wheels. Early Z/06 Vettes had Mg wheels from the factory, as did Ferraris and Panteras with Campy wheels. Mg wheels are also used on some airplanes. Here is more info on Magnesium than you ever cared to read about: http://www.magnesium.com/w3/data-bank/index.php?mgw=1

I have not heard of excessive failures of the mag phone dials - sure one will crack every once in awhile on a track car, but as do a lot of wheels. Ive seen BBS, Forgeline, HREs crack spokes. Stay off the rumble strips.
Ive had a set for 6-7 years and have used them on the track quite a bit. Retired them to rain tires now as I am running 18s in the dry, but I am not significantly more worried about the mag wheels breaking than the stock cast alum. PD's. Which also reminds me to mention that the mag wheel casting is not the same casting as the stock alum. wheels. The rim lip and and I recall the webbing is somewhat beefier on the mag wheels than the alum wheels - John do you agree, or is my memory failing?

I would say that the casting was specific to these wheels as they are different size widths and offsets. Since porsche thinks about everything, the size of the spokes or webbing probably is a touch different.

Lots of folks in the "real world " run magnesium wheels and many still running true vintage magnesium even for serious high speed land speed stuff.
As I see it, a damaged wheel that has been repaired is the risky bet, but for a nice set that checks out looks like an awesome price to me! GL w sale boostfeen.

Those wheels are like a fat girl who somehow pulled off being sexy enough to be completely amazing in bed. Athough they are still 16" PD's, those are some sweet, rare wheels!!
If they were on my car, I wouldn't pull them off....unless some 18" BBS RE's or Fiskes wanted to hook up. ... and of course I'd never tell my friends about them without also saying how well they "performed".
