Fit and finish of this car is top notch!
Yes the body has been lightened as much as possible. Rear floor cut out and now CF, roof CF, all panels, doors, bumbers, diffusor is either CF or glasfiber. All lexan windows, front screen heated lexan like new Cup cars. CF daschboard, Standalone with only the necesary wiring. Lightweight hollow driveshafts, aluminium torque tube, The list goes on.
He is a very seasoned driver and dominated super saloon in the - 80:s with a very trick selfbuilt tubular camaro. He is now 61 and mostly race historic and time attack.
Love to see a copy of the weight in print. Under 2200lbs is stupid light for a turbo car. We did a lot of lightening and only got to 1150kg / 2550lbs wet...no driver. We didn't do hollow driveshafts (negligible) or alu t/tube (probably a good 40lbs?) but 975kgs...that seems extremely light.

Hi Patrick

I dont have any info like that on print Im afraid. Maybe I can check with him and see if he has any. I do however dont have any reasons to not trust his statements. I know he weighed in at 1075kg last weekend in parc ferme.
Seems you should be able to get lower than that? My stock 1989 Turbo Cup weigh 1160kg dry. That car has alot of room for lightening.
Gustafs car is around 1000kg aswell if I remember correctly.

I will be back with info if he has any.

Hey Peder

I'm sure he could be lighter than ours. We had to retain glass front windscreen. All the rest are plastic. Every other panel on the car is f/g or c/f except roof and pillars which are metal. I guess we also can add a few more bits and pieces that other cars may not such as air jacks and some fairly serious structural aero parts. Gustaf's would be a bit lighter than mine I'd assume. Ours was weighed wet/no driver.

Cloud - what’s the weight of your hood now?

The Schiemann cf hood is about 9lbs. I’m considering one.

I'm afraid I don't remember, but I do remember it being disappointingly heavy. I don't think I saved more than 10 lbs over the stock hood. 9 lbs is very light; I'm sure mine is well over 20, probably closer to 30, as it has the full bracing, and the fiberglass is quite thick.

How much does Scheimann charge for a cf hood for a 944? I can't find a web site for them. Do you know if they do custom work, or just stock items? I'd be surprised if they made one for the 968, as it was such a low-production car, but I'm curious. I would love to get rid of the hinges, and just hold a featherweight CF hood down via four hood pins.

Max,

Were all your CF parts custom fabricated, or does Schiemann have molds for the parts he made for your car? I'm afraid a hood for a 968 would be very much a custom affair, since the car is so rare, and the hood is different from a 944's.

Default Cf doors

Cloud,
Yes they were all custom, but does have the molds know. He could make you a CF hood, You may want to check with Max Crawford, Crawford Composites.
He had the molds and some 968 parts in CF if he did discard them.
Kyle has been great to work with, his number is 586 489-7916

Max,

Thanks - your parts are definitely works of art. How much total weight would you estimate you saved by replacing your steel and plastic body panels with carbon fiber?
