Default What is happening to my belt?

Does this look like an old belt wearing out or something else? I removed the stock AFM but nothing is rubbing against the belt.

It looks like it jumped over a set of ribs.

Looking at the pics, it seems that in the second picture your AC compressor is not aligned with the crank pulley which will tear up the belt. The AC pulley seems to be shimmed forward a full rib but the pictures can be misleading.

don't wait for the belt to break. It will break. It is just a matter of time before it gets very bad and snaps. It happened to my car. Luckily, I was 5 minutes away from home.

Has your ac condenser gotten loose on the back side causing the belt to get that way?

Sadly, I can't give much more information. I've had the car for 2 1/2 years and never touched anything in that area. About 6 months ago Darwin (moddedeverything951) and I had to tinker with the timing belt when we replaced an onion seal on the camshaft. Since then, I have not done a single thing to the car. I do not run the a/c becuase it leaks.
Maybe the wearing away of the belt has caused it to jump?

Is this related to something else going wrong or will replaceing the belt be the solution?
Could old age have loosened up the belt and now it can jump? I have no idea how that belt is.

Thanks,
Thomas

Looking at where the belt sits on the crank pulley, it almost looks like the belt is/was too wide. That or something isnt aligned or its skipped a rib.

I would just change the belt and not worry about it make sure the ac condenser is tight in the mount and you good to go.

A few more questions.
1. I am not driving the car... but if I did and it breaks, would it be catastropic? Would internal things get damaged also?
2. How many hours of labor is replacing this belt?

Thanks,
Thomas

I have seen a lot of front mounting bolts break on AC compressors, which will **** the belt like that as the AC compressor hangs out of alignment. If the bolt is broken off, you will probably have to hang the ac compressor down so you can get at it with a chisel or a drill. The belt is about 10 minutes to replace, but if you have to deal with a broken bolt, plan on at least an hour.

if the belt breaks your battery will drain and your car will die, since that belt also runs the altenator

Thanks for the information guys. I feel a bit releaved... was expecting it to be much more severe and costly. Though, it's another problem with my car suddenly. Last few months have not been good to me.

it should take all of 10 min tops to replace and yes all it will do is leave you stranded somewhere with a dead battery.
