Hi DEMETRIOS, I just had my transmission taken apart. Second gear has teeth missing and third gear has teeth missing on both gears sets. It's trashed. It's going to get all gear sets cryotreated, and then remmed. I'm probably going to have Guards rebuild the factory LSD and I should be good. What dyno did you do your run? What was your tq? Those are great numbers. Congratulations! I ran a 509whp unloaded with 500wtq. Loaded I ran 480whp and 470wtq. The hp isn't what broke my tranny, it was my tq combined with my speed shifting.

So now I'm going to go all out to make this tranny as strong as possible as I have been in the works to get get 650 to the wheels and I think it's finally going to happen. I have a six speed also, and it's stronger than the five speed. But the gears are way too close and a new ring and pinion costs more than a whole tranny.

I may put this up for sale though. If it sells, I'll put the money toward a new ring and pinion for the six speed. So if anyone wants a damn near bullet proof five speed, I will have on shortly. All gear sets cryo treated, remmed, and the box will be Jet Hot coated with their black chrome 1300 to help the cooler lines keep the temps in check. It will also be built with the taller N/A fifth so you can get better gas mileage and top speed. If you'd rather have the factory fifth, then get in touch soon so you can choose that option. It will come with a picutures documenting the build and built by Scott Dewitt of Advanced Automotion. Let me know. Othewise it's going in the car.

Good to see you're still on this Joe. Many of us have gone somewhat different paths and often for different purposes. I've currently got a modified 968 trans in mine but with the stock gearing. This will be fine with the current 2.5L motor that I suspect will be pushing out only 350whp with the new ECU in it. It may be too short geared for the 3L motor that is planned to go in the car eventually. I still have a 951 box with an S2 RP and Motorsport LSD unit in there. Possibly to change that to a stock 951 RP at a later date if needed.
Having said that, a friend who races his turbo 968 has been fine with the stock 968 gearing in his own words. I've seen video of that and it doesn't seem too short by observation.

Hi all, just found this sub forum. I have an LS1 951 as my daily driver.

Anyway, I just installed a 0.68 5th gear in my turbo box for highway cruising, although I'm also messing with the clutch also so I haven't actually driven it yet.

The NA 5th is 0.73, and the Turbo 5th is 0.83.

From my research, the swappable 0.68 5th gear is in '80-'82 Audi 5000 Diesel 016 trans w/ codes: UF, MN, BMO, WV, UW, MO, MR, AAW, AAV, AAY, AAX, AMM, & AMN.

And from my research, the 0.68 is the tallest USA spec gear available.

That's interesting. What is the ratio of the na 5th. Is like to compare the difference.

Problem mostly solved by running the stock 968 box with stock 1 & 2, but going taller on 3, 4, 5 & 6 via the Audi A4 Euro parts bin (contact: Scott Dewitt Advanced Automotion).

1st to 2nd is a bit short but it's not too bad. the transitions are perfect after 2nd.....

low rpm, mid rpm, high rpm, back roads, Monument Valley Twisties, Pacific Coast Highway or the Interstate,

always able to find the perfect gear......

Lart installed a sweet set of Koni adjustables and lowered the ride height about 3/4"

running 285 35 18s w/ the stock 968 box and .600 6th....

sublime GT cruising across the desert......

I am just reading this forum. I have a 86 951 with LS3 mod and I am looking to for a different R & P to make the gearbox more usable. Looking for 2200 rpm at 80mph. We’re you successful in getting a custom R&P? Any leads would be helpful.

There are only a few tooth combinations that will work in the transfer cases.
The easiest route to your taller "different" R&P is using the 944T box.
You need the stronger Turbo trans for you V8 anyway.

The Turbo 5 speed box has the taller _____? R&P.
& the most economic route for a final ratio suitable for a V8 is a 944T box
running the N/A 5th, rendering like, a ~185-190mph car?

^^i'm at 200mph at ~5860rpm running the .600 6th (from Euro Diesel Quattro)
on 285 35 18's w/ 60% tread from 3.778 R&P (w/ 2.267: 1 final ratio)
